Arnold Schwarzenegger recently took to his official Instagram account, @schwarzenegger, and shared a small snippet from his interview with Dana Carvey and David Spade on the sets of Fly on the Wall. In the video, he was seen talking about how he was not the first option for the role of The Terminator; it was O.J. Simpson.

However, somehow, Simpson did not seem to fit the role. The studio had a negative feeling about him, and they thought O.J. Simpson’s nature would not sell for a killing machine. Schwarzenegger said while stating Jim Cameron’s words, “OJ is not enough of a killer. He looks too soft for that, and Arnold added, “And this is the truth.” And that was what the studio felt, too.

After talking to Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Cameron believed that O.J. Simpson had to be trained hard for the role, as he looked too soft and simple, and that was when Arnold Schwarzenegger was asked, “You’re absolutely correct, your take on this is perfect. Why don’t you play the Terminator?” And well, despite all the criticism, he did win; after all, he had sacrificed so much for this role.

The role of Terminator was the beginning of his career, and he worked hard for it. He was starting from his initial intense days of training when he almost stopped blinking at the gym range because he had to fire so many rounds. While playing the role of a cyborg assassin and killing a waitress, Schwarzenegger had to convert himself into an emotionless robot, learn all the stunts by heart, and practice them while blindfolded.
