In the short clip, Dr. Mike Israetel spoke about the three tips to keep in mind while bulking. The founder of Renaissance Periodization said that bodybuilders should not resort to a dirty bulk full of fast food to quickly gain weight. Instead, he suggested a cleaner but more flexible diet.

Bulking on a clean diet doesn’t have to be difficult

Of the three steps that Israetel outlined, the first one talked about the type of food one should consume during a bulk. “First, eat mostly healthy, which means lean meats, veggies, fruits, whole grains, and healthy fats,” said the competitive bodybuilder. However, the exercise scientist left the specific choice of food to his viewers, because not everyone likes the same vegetable.

One of the most common misconceptions many people have about bodybuilding is thinking the athletes remain shredded throughout the year. However, bodybuilders drastically increase their body weight to put on muscle when they don’t compete. This is called the off-season and prep begins a few months before a particular show when the bodybuilder loses fat to reveal what they have gained.

After explaining the core components of the diet, Israetel advises people to follow them and “make it taste pretty good.” Mike Israetel wanted his viewers’ bulking sessions to be enjoyable. “Don’t just eat it plain you’re not in this to suffer,” said the exercise scientist.

However, the third tip might be the most exciting one. Continuing in the vein of not making bulking insufferable, Israetel told his followers to have some comfort food periodically. “You can absolutely put in some fun junk on occasion,” said the exercise scientist. The competitive bodybuilder said that one can eat “super clean” for the entirety of the week. However, if they want to have some junk food on the weekend, “it’s awesome.”

While bulking is something all bodybuilders do, many fail to do it right. Hence, instead of feeling sluggish after dirty bulking, Israetel provided a balanced solution.
