Hence, the Midnight Sun actor joined countless Americans in mourning the passing of the former First Lady. The 96-year-old was a passionate humanitarian who co-founded the Carter Center with her husband. “Waging peace. Fighting disease. Building Hope,” is the Carter Center’s motto. Rosalynn Carter also championed mental health awareness and caregiving throughout her lifetime.

The former First Lady was married to Jimmy Carter for 77 years. “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” said the 99-year-old former President about his late wife. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it,” President Carter added. However, his passing wasn’t a surprise. Mrs. Cartre’s health declined steadily. On November 17, the Carter Center announced she had entered hospice care at home. Rosalynn Carter spent her final days with her husband and surrounded by family. In February, Jimmi Carter’s health declined as well.
