With less than a week to go until the release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, the anticipation for the film is increasing every day. The movie, which clashes with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer at the Box Office, stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as the lead characters Barbie and Ken. But it wasn’t a get-up-and-go-to-work kind of job for Robbie or Gosling as far as the physical demands were concerned for the characters. While Gosling and the other Kens worked out in the gym, Margot Robbie indulged in one of her favorite past times: being Barbie-fit, unlike any bodybuilding secret.

Margot Robbie is from Australia, and she grew up swimming in waters that are often infested by the scariest of creatures. Gigantic sharks are the most common of all. She’s always had a sporting interest from her growing-up years in Australia, one that also culminated in her passion for rollerblading, also seen in the movie.

As the release date of Barbie nears, fans are anxious to know more about the stars of the film. And that involves everything, right down to their diet, their fitness routine, and their preparation for the role. This brings us to Margot Robbie’s interview with Vogue in late May this year, where she spilled the beans on many of her secrets. Robbie was on her rollerblades during the entire course of the interview.

It was Robbie’s request to Vogue to have her rollerblades on during the interview. She picked up the interest during her ice skating lessons on the set of I, Tonya, where she played the titular figure skater in 2017. This is also partly why she “hates to break”. However, another interesting connection would be her fitness for the role and her rollerblading interests.

When Women’s Health magazine found out about this interview, they spruced up an interesting connection between rollerblading and cardio workouts. Besides her interest, rollerblading did a world of good for Robbie in terms of staying fit.

How rollerblading automatically puts Margot Robbie in good health

Research conducted at the Universitat Konstantx revealed that mild to moderate rollerblading increases the heartbeat by 140–160 beats per minute. As the rollerblading pace increases, the heartbeat rate also increases to 180 or more. This results in overall improved health and blood circulation, something most other pastime activities fail to do. Another study by the University of Massachusetts cites rollerskating and rollerblading as more effective than running since there is minimal impact shock on the leg joints as compared to running. Therefore, it also provides a great cardio workout without requiring a run.

A few days ago, another Ken from the movie, MCU star Simu Liu, said that all the actors who play Ken really bonded over their time spent in the gym. As far as Margot Robbie’s preparation for Barbie went, it seems like she had it all sorted with her years of rollerblading experience.
