This American professional bodybuilder was far from having immense strength and confidence. However, looking at other legends like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Reg Park, and Dave Draper performing in the Mr. World contests on TV, he knew exactly what he wanted to become.

Tom Platz: From a normal schoolboy to one of the greatest bodybuilders

The bodybuilding legend Tom Platz recently took to his official Instagram account @tomplatz and shared a snippet from one of his interviews, where he was seen talking about what connected him to bodybuilding. He began by saying, “All through grade school, I didn’t feel like a tough guy. I wanted to feel better about myself and you know.”

He had no idea how to be somebody who was confident. All he knew was that he wanted to be strong, get bigger, and look good, all at the same time. It was when he saw the other bodybuilding legends that he knew that this was what he wanted to do in his life.

His parents, recognizing this desire, gifted him a set of Weider weights for Christmas and that was it for him. Platz added, “As soon as I put the bar in my hand, it was just an immediate connection, so overwhelming.” However, he also had another turning point in his life, a particular something that ignited his motivation for bodybuilding.

Tom Platz, who had already acquired an eternal connection with lifting irons, had a rather luxurious source of motivation that led him to compete and become a professional bodybuilder. Stumbling across pictures of Dave Draper, Platz wanted to have everything that he had.
