Having an obese body in itself brings about a lot of unnecessary chaos in life, let alone the contact taunts and jokes passed on by strangers and friends. It is not just unhealthy, but also makes it difficult for a person to accept themselves and be confident in their own skin. Where a lot of people might call it body shaming, but sometimes, being obese is more related to health concerns.

One such example of this case was Stephanie Smith, a well-known influencer on Instagram. She had a weight of 390 lbs and faced a lot of difficulties even performing the simplest of tasks. Nothing seemed to work out for the 36 YO. Smith tried out every possible crash diet and also experimented with every workout regime. The result led to her suffering from an eating disorder. She finally got her hands on something that was of help and went for it. Let us see what the magic potion was for her.

The Journey of losing 200 lbs 

Smith got into a relationship that took a toll on her mental health. All she did was munch on food all day long to escape the dreadful reality. However, once the relationship came to an end, she finally decided that she had had enough. She took charge and went for bariatric surgery, which involved removing a large part of fat from her stomach.

Initially, after the surgery, she lost around 126 lbs with a decreased appetite. With time, as she incorporated healthy food into her diet, she lost around 200 lbs. Sadly, she was left with 14 lbs of excess skin that was left hanging loose from her stomach.

The loose skin did bring about a lot of insecurities for her, but she decided to carry it as a ‘badge of honor’. She says, “Even though I have a lot of insecurities about my loose skin and certain parts of my body, I am able to conceal and hide the parts of my body I don’t like if I need to.”

Bariatric surgery works wonders for Smith!

The surgery left Smith to be a more confident person. Whenever she thinks of the loose skin hanging, she recalls what she used to be, and it gives her comfort. She says, “I would definitely say that now I’m more comfortable than I was in my old body.” On being asked about how people take her after the surgery, she said, “They wouldn’t know that I have bariatric surgery or that I have loose skin.”

She concludes her journey by saying, “So I definitely feel more confident about myself. I feel healthier, I feel better overall. My mental health is better.
