Four-time Men’s Physique Olympia champion Jeremy Buendia can’t seem to catch a break. For years, Buendia has faced physical and mental health-related issues that have derailed his triumphant return to the bodybuilding stage. However, just as things were looking up for Buendia, he has suffered another setback. The bodybuilding icon tore his Achilles tendon.

After his lackluster result at the 2023 Mr, Olympia, Jeremy Buendia swore to return to the best shape of his career for the upcoming Super Bowl of bodybuilding. He recently even spoke about meeting reigning Men’s Physique champion Ryan Terry and issuing a challenge. However, Bis and Tris reported that Buendia got injured while filming content for one of his sponsors, JetFuel Energy Drink.

The former Men’s Physique Olympia champ posted an update on his Instagram, revealing the extent of his injury. The 33-year-old said he went for a CT scan, and the results showed that he had completely ruptured his Achilles tendon. “I got another mountain to climb,” the former champion captioned his post. Buendia also described how he got injured.

“I did some running & Right off the start, I planted off my left foot and I felt a pop,” wrote the veteran bodybuilder. Achilles tendon injuries are career-altering in sports that involve a lot of running. Thankfully, the Men’s Physique title contender will still be able to train his upper body. That being said, Buendia also revealed that he might need surgery.

The 33-year-old spoke about an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon to determine if and when he needs surgery. The former Men’s Physique Olympia winner’s fans were distraught to hear about the news. Over the years, Buendia has suffered other injuries and infections that have derailed his prep. So they prayed for Buendia’s swift recovery.

Fans of the former Men’s Physique champion have waited for years to see Buendia reclaim the title. However, every year something derails the prep. “The dude can’t catch a break,” lamented one fan. Another fan wrote a similar comment. “Swear this guy is unlucky as f**k,” the fan wrote. “Jesus this guy cursed or something,” wrote a third fan.

IFBB Pro and bodybuilding coach Greg Doucette commented on Buendia’s post. “Man that sucks. Sorry to hear that. Stay positive and heal faster than last time,” commented Doucette in his signature style. “Aarh! Good recovery to you Jeremy Buendia and come back stronger,” wrote a fellow Men’s Physique competitor Gabriel Biefnot.
