The world of bodybuilding has massively evolved and expanded, with the emergence of new substitutes that help to boost the process of transformation. Lee Haney says, “Not only me, but you have people like Ed Corney, you have Arnold, you have Franco Columbu. You see, none of these guys particularly liked Franco.” He further added that Columbu too lifted ridiculously heavy weights, but never injured himself, as he knew the system. He goes on to talk about the science of the sport and how if that is followed, there are fewer chances of getting injured.

Lee Haney adds, “We are still walking around with those injuries and without surgeries. The younger schools, they tear their knees, hips, and back. They rip themselves apart, they tear triceps, all kinds of craziness because of trying to lift the world.” The legend once even revealed his secret to building muscles without going extremely heavy on weights.

Lee Haney’s training philosophy

According to Lee Haney, it’s not the heavyweights that do wonders with your body, but the muscle-mind connection. He says, “If you can get your leg to think you use 8 million pounds and you only use 500 or 300 then that’s great”. To substantiate this, he adds that while working out, the body part does not recognize the weight, rather it just understands the feel.

Lee Haney states that the muscles react to the sensation that is left behind after lifting the weights. He even advises implementing the ‘pre-exhaustion’ technique that is before you begin with intense exercises like squats. It is better to initiate them with exercises like leg presses or leg extensions.
