It has been some time since MMA legend Anderson Silva took up boxing to continue treading upon the rest of his path. A multi-faceted martial artist, Silva had 45 professional MMA fights since his debut and he has now competed against some of the best. After the victory against Derek Brunson on February 12, 2017, in the UFC, Spider faced a series of losses against the likes of Adesanya, Cannonier, and Hall.

Silva’s growing age and these recurrent losses finally led the UFC to release him in 2020. With only two months after being released, Silva announced his retirement from MMA and revived his career in boxing. Recently, under the card of Floyd Mayweather vs. Don Moore, Anderson Silva squared off with Bruno Machado in Abu Dhabi, Dubai.

Anderson Silva to knock out Jake Paul

Following the highly anticipated event in Dubai, Jake Paul, in one message, called out two legends. He claimed himself capable of beating Floyd Mayweather and Anderson Silva on the same night.

In a recent interview, popular combat sports journalist The Schmo connected with boxer-turned-mixed-martial-artist and two-time Olympic champion Claressa Shields.

In their conversation, they discussed the transition from boxing to MMA and from MMA to boxing. At this, taking Anderson Silva for an example, this is what Shields told:

“I want Anderson Silva to knock out Jake Paul. That’s what I want. And I believe that he’s the guy to do it. I think that Jake Paul has fought against Tyron Woodley, who’s a great guy, great MMA fighter. But Silva is showing that he’s good, a really really good boxer even though he has an MMA background.”

“So, I would love to see Anderson Silva fight a Jake Paul. I think both guys are really enhancing their skills. I just don’t really like Jake Paul like that so, I want him, Anderson Silva, to fight, and I want Anderson Silva to win,” she added.

Looks like Shields is not amongst Jake Paul’s well-wishers. However, to speak the truth, a fight between Silva and Paul would really be interesting.

If the two ever did square off, would Jake Paul be able to win?

To answer the question, one must look at what Jake Paul has and what he has not. Certainly, Paul does not have Silva’s fighting IQ and his long-forged fighting experience. Silva, who has fought in various martial arts categories, even at 47, is still a threat not to be taken lightly. At 45, when Mayweather went up against a former sparring partner, that too in an exhibition, Silva faced middleweight champion Israel Adesanya for three skin-ripping rounds, each containing five minutes.

That being said, one understands the stamina, endurance, and the will to fight the Brazilian still possesses even though he has walked past his prime. However, Jake Paul is young, and he did demonstrate some boxing skills in his last fights against Woodley and Askren.

Despite being the well-rounded martial artist Silva is, he still may lose to Paul if he allows the latter an opening during their fight. Anyway, do you agree with Shields and also expect Silva to knockout Jake? Let us know in a comment.
