In 1958, Bruce Lee, guided by his kung fu instructor Wong Shun Leung, adapted to Western boxing rules. But he did not abandon Wing Chun, a concept-based martial arts. Although constrained in using all his Wing Chun techniques, Lee’s incredible speed and style allowed him to land a flurry of punches on Elms. His opponent was knocked down multiple times. This resulted in Lee’s victory. However, Lee’s reluctance to follow strict rules and his preference for free, unrestricted fighting led him away from such organized events. He gravitated towards friendly sparring contests and street fights, aligning with his belief that real-life combat had no place for guidelines and traditions.
