Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant has once again stirred the hornet’s nest. An Instagram live stream of the 2020 ‘Rookie of the Year’ awardee has been making rounds. It would be the second instance where Morant has been filmed with a gun. He received an eight-game suspension for displaying a weapon in Denver two months ago. The latest incident has resulted in him being removed from all team activities. Everyone’s watching the fate of the upcoming basketball star’s lucrative commercial deals. On the other hand, the repeat behavior has made him a butt of jokes across social media.

Last year, the twenty-three-year-old South Carolinian received NBA’s ‘Most Improved Player’ Award. However, the situation turned murky when he dangled a gun inside a Denver strip club in March. When the videos of the incident turned viral, NBA immediately barred him from eight matches. On his part, the two-time All-Star apologized and confirmed learning from his oversight.

Adrien Broner jabs ‘Quick Gun’ Morant

As much as his behavior solicited concerns from all corners, it hasn’t prevented a few from making a sport of it. Former world champion Adrien Broner took to his Instagram account and shared a short clip of a man walking about with a book in hand, thumping his chest frequently. Originally posted by user @listen2thisone, the message read, “Ja Morant after reading his 2023 NBA script.” The boxer, known for taking notable breaks from boxing, hasn’t boxed since 2021.

Broner, who has, in the past, been defeated by the likes of Manny Pacquiao and ‘Chino’ Maidana, was expected to return under a new promoter. But, unfortunately, the deal with BLK Prime collapsed. According to an article on badlefthook.com, Broner has joined legendary boxing promoter Don King‘s stable. He will fight Bill Hutchinson on June 9 in Miami, as reported on box.live.

Getting back to Ja Morant, the backlash triggered by the latest affair has witnessed one of the major sponsors, Nike pulling out his signature shoe ‘Ja1,’ from its websites and apps. Morant and Nike entered an agreement in 2019 that was said to be around $12 million. Moreover, his deal with Powrade also sails close to the wind. The company had to withdraw a marketing campaign involving Morant for the March incident. On his part, the star point guard released a statement that Adrien Wojnarowski shared over Twitter.
