20-Year-Old Student Collapses and Dies Due to a Charity Boxing Match

Boxing is arguably one of the most demanding sports on the planet. Recently, a 20-year-old Las Vegas student and their family faced its dark side. Nathan Valencia, the student, took part in a fraternity boxing match that happens every year and reportedly contracted some serious brain damage. Four days later, he lost his life.

The Kappa Sigma’s Fraternity Fight Night took place on November 19, during which the brutal brain injury happened in the main-event. Per an Instagram post by Kappa Sigma, Nathan Valencia squared off against Emmanuel Alman. Before the headliner, six more fights took place.

University President Keith E. Whitfield has mourned the tragic loss and has detailed the exact happening. Currently, investigation is underway to determine the details of the unfortunate incident.

The official statement said, “We will be completing a full investigation to determine how UNLV and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity could allow and promote an event like this to take place. College students should not be placed in a situation where they are pitted against each other for combat.

University President offers his sympathies to Nathan Valencia’s family

In an official statement of Keith E. Whitefield (University President), it became clear that Nathan Valencia had collapsed right after the boxing scrap. Notably, he was immediately taken to a hospital for adequate medical support. However, he could not recover and succumbed to the injury.

After vowing to develop medical security, Whitfield further stated, “Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and loved ones. I am sure words cannot describe their feeling of grief and emptiness. They are in our thoughts during this very difficult time.”
