The demise of football legend Pele has saddened the football community. A true legend of the sport, Pele won three world cups during his life on the field. Edson Arantes do Nascimento aka Pele was named after inventor Thomas Edison, who, among other necessities, invented the incandescent light bulb and illuminated life. Like Edison, Pele ignited the spirit of people with his magical and irradiating run on the football field.
In 1981, four years after he retired from the Brazilian team, Pele worked with Sylvester Stallone in a film called ‘Escape to Victory‘. In the film, the former Minister of Sports of Brazil played the role of Corporal Luis Fernandez, a prisoner who played against a German team. Towards the end of the movie, an injured Fernandez stumbled and dribbled and finally scored with a classic bicycle kick.
