6 Years Later, Muhammad Ali’s Daughter Finally Told the Truth About the Legend’s Disease: ‘He Was Kind of Lost’

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali is regarded as the greatest boxer that the world has ever seen. With numerous titles to his name, Ali was the epitome of success during his heyday. Often known as ‘The Greatest’, the boxer died in 2016. However, six years after his death, Ali’s daughter opened up about his condition. 

Muhammad Ali’s eldest daughter Mary Ali joined ‘In Focus’ in light of Parkinson’s Awareness Month. Her father suffered from Parkinson’s disease, which was diagnosed in 1984. Maryum Ali stated, “I was so little [during the fight]. I remember seeing a difference in his speech when he fought Leon Spinks the second time actually.”

She further added, “A lot wasn’t known about Parkinson’s back then, as it is now. We have great research now. People know what it is. Great therapies. But back then he was kind of lost and was told he had Parkinson’s syndrome and then it wouldn’t progress… but it did.”

Parkinson’s disease is a nervous system illness that causes abnormal movement. Low dopamine levels in the brain cause its symptoms. People may experience mental and behavioral changes, sleep issues, sadness, memory issues, and weariness as the illness worsens. As people age, their likelihood of having Parkinson’s disease rises.

Muhammad Ali’s wish before leaving this world

Ali had been to several countries for his boxing fights. His illustrious boxing career made him a big name across the planet. ‘The Greatest’ was a popular name in the UK, and even the boxer had a lot of love for the country. Interestingly, during his critical condition in 2016, Ali had a wish to meet the Queen on his last visit to the country.

A close person to the boxer revealed, “He wants to meet the Queen. He knows it will be the last time he comes to the UK and his number one wish is to meet Her Majesty.”
