Mike Tyson smokes weed, and that’s not a new thing. If asked to recall an instance, perhaps a fan might go back to the smoke-filled studio of the ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson’, the boxing great’s eponymous podcast. But how does that equate to 19 cigarettes? That too burned off in half an hour? If what Tom Segura told Shaquille O’Neal stands true, then seemingly the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history might have accomplished that feat as well.

But the revelation might prove a harbinger of further distress to many fans. There already exist several concerns as Mike Tyson prepares himself to take on the much younger Jake Paul. The duo is slated for a sanctioned professional fight with specific rules at Arlington’s AT&T Stadium on July 20. The co-host of ‘Your Mom’s House’ was on Shaquille O’Neal’s show, ‘The Big Podcast With Shaq’. Over a laughter-filled discussion, Segura recalled the time when Iron Mike came to a comedy show of his after a chance encounter in an airplane.

So Tom Segura and Mike Tyson met on a flight. The former heavyweight champion’s fearsome reputation had the stand-up comedian worried. My heart stopped when I felt his hand grab my shoulder. I was like, and then he chatted me up about my show, and then he goes like, ‘We’re coming to your show tonight, brother’, and I was like, okay, and then he showed up like at a this is a comedy club,” he said.

Later, though finding it hard to believe initially, the club manager told him that Mike Tyson had arrived. Tom Segura said that throughout the show, he could never make out where Tyson was. However, he could perceive a loud smacking sound coming from a certain table throughout the show. Segura knew this must be Mike Tyson. Later, post-show, Tyson followed Segura into the back. This made Segura nervous. Mike Tyson then asked if they could go to his green room.

So he took me to my green room; he goes in there, and then we just sit in the green room; he’s smokes like 19 cigarettes in 25 minutes, and he’s just like, uh, you know, ‘You got a window?’ I was like, it’s a little late for that bro, like smoking and then he just hung out, talked boxing. But the experience of having him at the show at first was full panic,” recalled Segura.

The comedian recounted how the whole incident saw him on the tenterhooks. However, things changed thereafter. But for fans worried about this habit of his, we must understand that was a few years ago. Things are not the same anymore for Mike Tyson, especially since he has signed on to fight Jake Paul. Now he is on his Iron Mike regimen.

Iron Mike is in full-on ‘Beast Mode’

Only recently did the former heavyweight champion make a stark confession. During an interview with Forbes, he talked about how he has forced himself to abstain from smoking weed and physical intimacy, in the lead-up to his professional return against the Problem Child.

He had been hard-disciplining himself away from such pleasure so that he could get back into his old beast mode when he entered the ring. “It’s just discipline. You know, discipline is… doing what you hate to do, but doing it like you love it. You know, I hate not being able to smoke. I’m doing it like I love it. I hate not to be able to sleep with my wife. I’m doing it like I love it.” He has changed his diet drastically as well.

The 57-year-old legend is also eating raw meat, as that is helping him remain in shape before the scheduled match. When asked about his diet that has helped him become lean, he declared, “Raw Meat! I might have to eat it now. Because my opponent’s gonna be raw meat.”

Thus, in light of the fresh insights, most of the fans would be hoping that he is back to his regimented ways of maintaining optimum health. Smoking, for whatever it is, doesn’t bode well for a warrior who is aging but at the same willing to charge ahead against a boxer who is thirty years his junior.
