Floyd Mayweather Jr. has retired for good following his last official boxing fight against Conor McGregor. Despite that, the undefeated fighter is still open to making money by stepping in the ring for exhibitions. Additionally, he would love to do so against MMA fighters.

With an unblemished record of 50-0, Mayweather has done almost he could’ve done in his professional career. He capped off a career that saw him win fifteen major world titles with a win over MMA double champ Conor McGregor in 2017. Since then, ‘Money’ has stayed away from the ring, although he trains on a fairly regular basis.

Apart from being the fighter that he is, Mayweather also has a penchant for keeping his name relevant. As of now, he has no interest in fighting actual boxers. Instead, he is more inclined towards exhibition fights.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. 100% sure he is not fighting any boxers

While talking to CNN, the 43-year-old highlighted his plans for the future.

As of right now, I’m doing exhibitions. I’m 100% sure that I’m not fighting against any boxer anymore. So, that’s out of the question. I mean, just my faculties mean a lot to me. Money don’t make me, I make money and my health is more important than money,” Mayweather said.

As far as me doing exhibitions and me fighting MMA guys, will I do that in a box ring? Absolutely,” he added.

Since his retirement, Mayweather has fought in an exhibition fight once. He went against Japanese kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa on December 31, 2018. The boxing legend annihilated the 20-year-old who had to overcome a size deficit as well. That fight took his record against mixed martial artists to 2-0.

The first of the two victories came more famously over Conor McGregor in 2017. Compared to Nasukawa, ‘The Notorious’ had the size and the skills to hang in with arguably the greatest boxer of all-time for ten rounds.

Mayweather’s decision to not risk his legacy and an untarnished record is a perfect business decision. He was in talks with UFC President Dana White towards the end of last year. Presumably, they were discussions hovering around Zuffa Boxing and Mayweather’s participation in the same.

However, the year 2020 has not been the one to start new ventures in. Therefore, Dana White has put those plans on hold for the time being.
