Who has not heard of the heated feud that is still ensuing between Ryan Garcia and his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya? In a fresh development in this ongoing hostility, the fighter has answered one pertinent question. Will he continue to work with ‘Golden Boy’  in the foreseeable future?

Right after ‘KingRy’ had registered his career’s first loss at the hands of Gervonta Davis last April, he turned sour toward almost everyone, including his promoter, De La Hoya. The fighter complained that his promoter left the fight venue immediately after the bout, leaving him betrayed and alone. He also claimed that De La Hoya’s team was not present at the post-fight press conference as well. A fuming ‘Ry’ threatened to leave the promoter, while the latter sought legal avenues to get the fighter to abide by their agreement. Since then, a hate-hate relationship emanated between them, and continues even now.

What is the endgame in the feud between Ryan Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya?

On Patrick Bet-David’s PBD Podcast, the 25-year-old fighter was quizzed if he saw himself working with Golden Boy in the next five years. In all his dramatic suave, and peaking disdain for the promoter, Ry took the fifth. Quite literally. He remarked, “What do they say in court? I plead the fifth, something like that.” Both Garcia and the host, the famous entrepreneur and podcaster burst into laughs after the revelation.

The line of question comes as a fresh set of hostilities erupted between the fighter-promoter duo. Earlier, right before 2023 ended, there were talks about getting Ry to fight against Devin Haney, a proposition that the promoter too was excited about. However, a few days later, the California-based fighter, Ry pulled out of the fight and chose Rolando Romero as his next opponent, scorning De La Hoya who still believed that the Haney was ideal for his marquee fighter.

Later, the ‘Rolly’ fight too collapsed for Garcia after the 50-year-old promoter noted that the opponent cashed himself out. Meanwhile, for another potential opponent, De La Hoya announced that Jose Ramirez was almost finalized as a potent contender for Ry. Turn of events? The fighter later publicly hinted that he was not even informed about De La Hoya taking the fight to Ramirez. Denying that fight, Garcia wrote on X, “No Ramirez. Let’s make that clear.”

In a subsequent post, Ryan Garcia made it clear where he stands with the promoter. He wrote, “Ryan Garcia vs Oscar De La Hoya at this point.” As this animosity continues to brew, Garcia, however, has returned to square one, and De La Hoya’s hopes are close to fruition.

Ry vs Devin Haney is back on the cards

Confirming that talks for his fight against Haney are back in its pavilion, Garcia also predicted what the confrontation would look like. To FightHype, he said, “The fight between me and Devin Haney would be a huge pay-per-view. I will exceed expectations, and people will be shocked. I will not be shocked, but Devin will be destroyed. His daddy’s going to have to help him up. I’m telling Bill [Haney] this. I’ll tell him this now, and I’ll probably have something for him later.”
