While some reports suggest a massive purse awaits him for the upcoming showdown with arch-rival Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua‘s wallet is already getting filled. The latest Netflix documentary deal, said to be nearly $13.2 million, appears to confirm it.

The outcome of the Fury bout could define how Joshua will be remembered. Netflix, which is also the official broadcaster of the fight now set for December 11 in Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, wants to ensure his legacy extends beyond the fight.

“BOXER Anthony Joshua has signed a record £10 million ($13.2 million) deal for a hard-hitting, four-part Netflix documentary,” read The Sun Sports report. The “brutally raw and honest” series will cover the ups and downs of the two-time world heavyweight champion’s career and his cannabis arrest.”

What makes the report intriguing is that it follows the first official meeting between AJ and Fury in London. A source familiar with the situation told The Sun that the showdown will form the “main narrative arc” of the documentary.

Describing him as an “incredibly savvy businessman,” they revealed Joshua has been chronicling his career for more than ten years. From that perspective the Netflix show goes beyond merely showcasing his status as a boxing legend.

“It will take in his problematic younger years—ones culminating in AJ spending two weeks on remand in prison and his 2011 arrest for cannabis possession,” they added. “There is also powerful backstage footage of AJ in his dressing room at Madison Square Garden following his 2019 defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr.”

The documentary will include what is perhaps the most emotionally demanding period in AJ’s life when he lost two of his close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, in a car accident in Nigeria last December. According to the source, the Olympic gold medalist insisted that segment should be shown.

This would not be the first time Joshua’s life and career have been explored on camera. In November 2023, he was interviewed by journalist Louis Theroux. The interview included Joshua’s boxing journey, childhood, family background, and the pressure that came with his status as a heavyweight star.

Netflix, meanwhile, has increasingly paired boxing documentaries with major live events, using behind-the-scenes access to build interest around high-profile fights.

Before Jake Paul and Mike Tyson met in November 2024, Netflix released the three-part Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson. Similarly, Tyson Fury has also appeared in Battle of the Baddest, which documented his fight against former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

Beyond those fights, Netflix has also featured documentaries focused on the personal lives of sporting personalities. In 2023, it streamed a biographical documentary titled Untold: Jake Paul the Problem Child, which featured his journey from Vine and YouTube to professional boxing.

At Home with the Furys chronicles the former WBC title holder’s personal life. After Season 2 appeared in April this year, it has been reported that Season 3 could be underway sometime in 2027.

Most recently, Netflix is slated to premiere a four-part biographical project about Mike Tyson. Titled Tyson, it is set to appear on October 13.

Taken together, the Netflix documentary, which is expected to arrive in spring 2027, appears positioned to build on AJ’s intriguing storyline.

While he remained a dominant name in British boxing for over a decade, becoming one of the sport’s biggest draws, Joshua also commands significant following in his home country of Nigeria.

The development follows Joshua’s December 2025 bout with Jake Paul in Miami, which was also streamed globally by Netflix without a separate PPV charge. The streaming giant later reported an estimated 33 million global average-minute audience for the event.

The figure shows how, even in the United States, where that last time he fought was in 2019, against Ruiz Jr., Joshua remains a recognizable name.

Ahead of his comeback in July, reports revealed that he signed a multi-fight agreement with Turki Alalshikh, further reflecting his stature as one of modern boxing’s biggest names.

Most significantly, with perhaps the biggest fight of his career ahead of him, AJ is entering the final stretch of his career and wants his story to be told in a unique way. From that perspective, a partnership with the world’s most popular streaming service likely benefits all the sides.
