As Tyson Fury Vs Oleksandr Usyk Fight Talks Heat Up, Frank Warren Details His Relationship With Saudi Arabia

Things are getting heated up in the heavyweight division. The big fighters who were meant to fight against each other this year, have gone on to book fights with with other heavyweights. The much anticipated Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk bout fell apart when their negotiations reached a roadblock. Reports suggested that the fight collapsed owing to Fury not being okay with the purse split. However, his team has refuted those claims.

Well, with the most awaited undisputed title fight out of the picture, both fighters embarked upon looking for their next opponents. Enter Francis Ngannou. The former UFC fighter will be going against Fury in a matchup that holds no titles at stake. However, it will be fought under championship rules. This is the first boxing match the Cameroonian fighter will ever undertake. Meanwhile, Usyk recently defended his heavyweight titles against Daniel Dubois last month.  Amidst all of these matchups, one thing that binds Fury’s collapsed fight and upcoming bout is the venue. Saudi Arabia has become a new haven for fighters.

Saudi Arabia has become a rising hub for all sports events. From boxing to F1, and now even boxing, the kingdom is furthering its name as an ideal location for sporting events to take place. Amidst their unwavering efforts to promote sports in their land, one name that has often come up over there is Tyson Fury.

Moreover, his promoter Frank Warren vividly spoke about how good the Saudis were at executing business plans. He said, “Especially, the way the Saudis do things. It’s going to be absolute business. Just Unbelievable. I mean this is the 21st Century on Speed.”

Further, Warren also spoke about how much adoration Tyson commands in the kingdom. He also spoke about the time he met Saudi royalty. He elaborated, “He’s a really nice person. And he gets it. He’s a massive boxing fan, which I’m extremely grateful for. He’s a massive boxing fan, and so is his daughter. And they’re committed to boxing. His excellency, the daughter, the kingdom have seen something in Tyson that we’ve all known for a long time. He’s a massive, massive star.

Warren also gave an update about the status of the potential Fury-Usyk undisputed title fight.

Fury vs. Usyk is back on the horizon

Exciting news for boxing fans as it seems like the most anticipated fight lately will finally see the daylight. While most fans were disappointed when Tyson Fury’s fight with Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk fell apart, there was always some sort of lingering hope about it happening someday. Well, it had to, given that both these fighters collectively hold all the world titles in the heavyweight division. And the heavyweight division can finally have an undisputed champion after a long time.

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has hinted at the negotiations possibly resuming again. In a conversation with Sky Sports, Arum said, “It won’t be hard to make. Vouching for the fact that this time it is Usyk’s team leading these negotiations,”

He further said, “Usyk himself is a terrific guy. I think he wants that fight. I think that fight’s going to happen and hopefully it will happen sooner rather than later.”

The fight will probably take its course sometime at the end of this year or in the beginning of 2024. Arnum said, “Probably early next year but it could happen as early as December.” Meanwhile, Fury will clash against Francis Ngannou on the 30th of October in a no-titles matchup. The fight will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
