David Benavidez has been looking for a fight against Canelo Alvarez for a long time. However, despite various attempts that he made, he has been pretty unsuccessful in catching his attention. Previously, even his $50 million prospect failed to gain his attention and Alvarez moved on to fight the undisputed light middleweight champion Jermell Charlo.

Not only that, but Benavidez himself is currently preparing to face against Demetrius Andrade. Even his elder brother Jose Benavidez Jr. is going to fight against Jermall Charlo who was originally going to fight Alvarez. However, it seems not all hope is lost as Eddie Hearn revealed a way for him to earn the fight.

Eddie Hearn believes that David Benavidez has a clear path to a showdown with Canelo Alvarez. He emphasized that Canelo is not the one to back down from challenges. Hearn’s stance is that for Benavidez to set the stage for a mega-fight with Canelo, he should first take on Demetrius Andrade and secure a victory, potentially via a stoppage. Hearn envisions this as the moment when Canelo will be compelled to accept the challenge, considering the significant interest it would generate. He stated, “I think Canelo at that point will take the fight, I think it will be that big that he will take it”.

Moreover, he added, “Canelo isn’t afraid of anyone and he will fight everybody, deal’s gotta be right of course, but he’ll still fight them. Too many people are too passive and disappointed against Canelo Alvarez.” He believes that too many fighters have approached Canelo passively, citing instances like Charlo’s fight where the challenger didn’t seem fully committed to winning. Hearn values fighters like Caleb Plant and Billy Joe Saunders for their fearless approach in the ring. Furthermore, he wants Benavidez to follow the same path, making him a potential candidate for a high-profile clash with Canelo.

Rolly Romero predicts Benavidez vs. Andrade

Benavidez and Andrade are set to clash on November 24, marking Benavidez’s second title defense. Benavidez initially claimed the WBC interim super middleweight title with a third-round TKO against David Lemieux. He also secured a victory over Caleb Plant, a former opponent of Alvarez via unanimous decision. Now, he’s preparing to face the former two-division world champion.

Demetrius Andrade previously held the WBO title but vacated it in 2022, refusing to face Janibek Alimkhanuly. He also backed out of a bout against Zach Parker for the interim super middleweight title. After 14 months of inactivity, he’s gearing up to take on “The Mexican Monster.” Here’s what world champion boxer Rolly Romero has to say about the fight. Romero, sharing his perspective in an Instagram Live chat, confidently predicted, “I got Benavidez by murder,” suggesting Andrade has a slim chance of winning the interim title.
