2024 promises exciting clashes in the boxing world, however, that may not be the case for David Benavidez. ‘The Mexican Monster’ has been looking for a match against Canelo Alvarez but the latter is not throwing him any bone. Moreover, even though it appeared all but ready to go, Benavidez was left disappointed once again.

The super middleweight interim champion is preparing to face Oleksandr Gvozdyk next. This has undoubtedly caused a lot of pent-up frustration to rise up in the Benavidez camp. The lack of a capable opponent has caused Benavidez to be without a huge fight. All the anger poured out when Jose Benavidez Sr. appeared in an interview with ThaBoxingVoice. Here’s what he has to say to David Morrell, Jaime Munguia, and Billy Joe Saunders for not actively seeking Benavidez.

When questioned about potential opponents, Benavidez Sr asserted, “We’re not ducking nobody. We just want to stay active, you know?” He highlighted the challenges faced in arranging fights, particularly with fighters like Billy and Berlanga, stating, “We would love to fight him, but where is he at? These names are good, but they’re not stepping in.”

The frustration was palpable as Benavidez Sr called for action: “They open their mouth, they said they want to fight, but when it comes to time to sit down and negotiate… I mean you guys just see what’s outside where are they? Let’s make it happen!”.

David’s father also shed light on why the Benavidez-Canelo fight isn’t materializing.

Canelo knows what’s best for him

David Benavidez, the undefeated super middleweight contender, has his sights set on the undisputed champion, Canelo Alvarez. However, according to the fighter’s father and trainer, Jose Benavidez Sr., Canelo might be hesitant to step into the ring.

“Respect to Canelo,” Benavidez Sr. said, I think he has worn his body with too many battles in camp, training and training camps and all that. He further stated, He has a lot of fights, he has a lot of miles on his body, I believe that he knows that he’s not as strong as he used to be.

In contrast, Benavidez Sr. highlighted his son’s youthful advantage. David is young 27 years old, hungry, and bigger and stronger,” he declared. I think Canelo knows he doesn’t stand a chance. It’s a big risk, and he wants guaranteed wins, small guys coming up to lose.
