His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has big things planned for the sport of boxing. The minister of sports and entertainment for Saudi Arabia, also the person behind big events like Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou and the Day of Reckoning event, will now be orchestrating the much-anticipated showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight crown. His efforts have now been acknowledged by boxing legend Lennox Lewis.

Lennox Lewis shared a post, where he used a snippet of Alalshikh’s ‘DAZN Boxing’ interview to express his gratitude for him. Lewis believes that the world of boxing needed a man who would take such initiatives to revive it from its downward slide. He even went further in praising the man for helping create boxing history.

Lennox Lewis supports Turki Alalshikh’s vision

In the video, Turki Alalshikh talks about how he doesn’t want to see something that’s merely entertaining. Instead, he would much rather prefer watching good fighters throwing punches inside the ring. For that reason, he is trying to bring the fights that matter instead of something that would interest only the majority. This outlook is being loved by the fans a lot, as this is exactly what they’ve always desired from boxing.

So, Lennox Lewis, a boxing fan himself, shared the video on his Instagram, and in the caption wrote, “Speaking as fight fan, this is exactly what I wanted to hear. I can only give praise to His Excellency @turkialalshik for his commitment to give fight fans the matches we want to see.” Furthermore, he went on to add, “For the first time in almost 25 years we will finally see an Undisputed Heavyweight Boxing Champion when @usykaa meets @tysonfury on February 17th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I support their vision to make #riyadhseason the premiere outlet for the best matchups that fans have been asking for.

It is true, come 17th February, Saudi Arabia will help create boxing history as it will present the world with the first undisputed heavyweight champion in almost 25 years. For facilitating that, Turki Alalshikh deserves all the credit. And who better to give credit than the last undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis himself.

Although he praised Turki Alalshikh for taking great initiatives, he is not that excited about the upcoming Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou event scheduled for March 8, ironically also orchestrated by His Excellency Turki Alalshikh himself. But why the contention with the much-anticipated match-up?

Lewis still is not happy with ‘AJ’

After the announcement of the fight, Lennox Lewis criticized the upcoming bout between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou. He believes that neither fighter deserves to face Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk, the upcoming undisputed heavyweight championship contenders. In his opinion, this fight adds zero credibility to Joshua’s resume. He thinks that Joshua is supposed to win this fight and when he does, he gains nothing by beating someone in his second heavyweight fight. And if he loses, it would be an absolute disaster.
