Mia St John is one of the greatest female boxers to have ever stepped foot inside the squared circle. She has held three belts, WBC, IBF, and IFBA throughout her boxing career. With 49 wins and 19 knockouts, her name is engraved in the boxing history books, and even earned the moniker of ‘The Knockout’. Besides this, she also made waves among the boxing fans, as she also became a model for Playboy magazine for a brief time.

Despite her impressive accolades, she’s also faced many ups and downs in her career. She’s had 14 losses in her career, and five of them were via knockouts. But interestingly, she doesn’t count any of her losses as the toughest fight of her career, in fact, it was the opponent she’d defeated thrice during her fighting career.

Speaking to EssentiallySports, Mia St. John revealed that the opponent who gave her a hard time inside the ring was one of the hardest hitters in the sport. She said, “Yeah the toughest fight of my career I actually won it, beat this girl three times. But she was my toughest opponent.” She also stated that she wasn’t quite “sound technically”, so that gave John an edge in the fight.

So, John won via scorecards in all of the three fights against her. She stated, “She was the hardest hitter I’ve ever come across and I remember she broke my front teeth. Luckily I was able to salvage them, but I thought she had given me brain damage.” For this, she still holds a grudge and refrained from revealing her name because she’s “resentful“. However, according to BoxRec, it could be Jessica Mohs, as she’s the only opponent Mia had faced thrice and won every time via unanimous decision.

Since she’s faced such opponents that can hit like a truck, there’s no doubt that she voted against the new 3-minute 12-round fight making its way to female boxing.

The current female undisputed featherweight champion Amanda Serrano is achieving the unthinkable with every one of her fights as she continues to carry forward her forward momentum. Serrano fought for the first time in the format of men’s boxing in her fight against Danila Ramos. Therefore, they clashed against each other in a 3-minute 12-round match and Serrano defended her undisputed crown against Ramos via unanimous decision, thus creating history. This was heavily criticized by WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman.

Well, even John agreed with Sulaiman on this one. She told EssentiallySports, “Well, I’m not just saying this because I love Mauricio. I mean the WBC, that was my belt for all my championships, that was my belt. So love the WBC. I’ll have to agree with them.” She also revealed that she was offered such a fight, but she refused to take part in it. She believes even the rounds in men’s boxing shouldn’t go on for three minutes, as it’s too dangerous.

She added, “I’m all for safety and I just feel like the majority of the deaths that happen in boxing happen in the later rounds.” Although she respects the feats of Serrano, at the same time, she feels it’s too hazardous to make it a regular thing.
