One of the most coveted fights of the year got over a few hours ago. Devin Haney remains the undisputed Lightweight champion of the world. His second title defense against Vasiliy Lomachenko proved an exciting thriller that kept fans and audience on the edge till the final bell rang. The American was the clear favorite to win against an aging Lomachenko. But the latter surprised everyone by putting an outstanding display of jabs that confounded Haney to a great extent.

The closely fought bout projected an upset win in favor of the Ukrainian boxer. But the results, when announced, left many stunned. Devin Haney won unanimously. But the detractors and ‘Loma’ fans were unhappy to the core. Quite a few of them made their displeasure apparent as they booed and howled when Haney, his father, Will Haney, and other team members as they started moving out.

Another user rated the bout as probably the most gripping one of the year. Both Lomachenko and Haney fought well. But it was the former who did more battering. Haney barely harmed the Ukrainian boxer. He said, “Most exciting match I’ve seen this year. Both did well, but Loma may have hurt Devin. I didn’t see Devin hurt Loma.

The following user, like many, felt that Lomachenko was dispossessed of the world titles. Devin Haney failed even to bruise him up. If this is how he fights, then ‘Tank’ Davis, Ryan Garcia, and Teofimo Lopez, anyone among these, would knock him out. “Devin Pillow hands Haney got exposed, tank, Ryan, or Teofimo all ko him, Loma was robbed.

However, a few Devin Haney fans huddled together in his support, like the following user who said that he found Haney attacking with more precision. While Lomachenko fought effectively with his left hand, that proved insufficient against someone like Haney, who connected through powerful punches. The user wrote, “From what I did see, Dev landed more and clearer power punches. Loma left hand worked wonders, but it takes more than that to beat a guy that’s also landing great shots.

Finally, the following user mentioned unequivocally that Devin Haney won the fight. Vasiliy Lomachenko did great during the last few rounds, but Haney displayed outstanding work right from the beginning, which helped him win. He said, “Dev won that fight idc what anybody says. Loma had a few good punches that landed and got through, especially at the end of the fight, but Dev outworked him all fight.

Vasiliy Lomachenko has proved beyond doubt that age is nothing but numbers. His performance against the much bigger Devin Haney is an open statement that the master boxing technician still has much to contribute to the sport. Already faint talks of a rematch could be heard. However, much depends on Haney’s plans. Per several reports, the undisputed champion plans on moving up the ladder to 140 lbs.
