In the electrifying world of boxing, where jabs and hooks are exchanged both in and out of the ring, Shakur Stevenson recently took center stage with a no-holds-barred critique of the boxing media. Stevenson and Devin Haney have been feuding recently, and it seems like the media cannot get enough of the beef.

As ‘Sugar’ prepares to step into the ring against Edwin de Los Santos, Stevenson, tired of the same Haney-based questions, unleashed his 2 cents on an unsuspecting journalist. The rising star didn’t mince words as he unleashed a torrent of frustration, labeling boxing media as the “fakest motherf****rs” in the world.

In a candid moment that transcended the usual rhetoric of post-fight interviews, Stevenson aired his grievances, singling out the media’s apparent obsession with Devin Haney. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, with an intensity that matched his in-ring prowess, Stevenson expressed his fatigue with the constant barrage of Haney-related questions, pointing fingers at the media’s alleged favoritism. “I hear you, I know ya’’ love Devin so much, just like these other media people, y’all got favorites.” Stevenson declared, cutting through the usual diplomatic language that permeates such interactions. He didn’t limit his frustration to Haney alone; Stevenson called out specific individuals, including Edwin De Los Santos, who also commented on the ducking allegations.

Having none of that,  Stevenson challenged him to prove their worth in the upcoming bout on Thursday. “What the f*** do I care what Edwin says, who the f*ck is Edwin. It’s his first big fight. Edwin gotta prove himself on Thursday.”

Stevenson’s unfiltered commentary didn’t stop there. He questioned the legitimacy of the media’s affection for Haney, boldly asserting, “What’s with all these Devin questions, my god you guys really like these Devin questions, he’s your favorite.” This assertion, coupled with his claim that Gervonta Davis shares a similar disdain for the boxing media, paints a picture of an industry divided by perceived biases.

The call for authenticity in sports media isn’t new, but Stevenson’s verbal onslaught serves as a stark reminder of the tension that simmers beneath the surface. As fans crave genuine insights into the lives and thoughts of their favorite athletes, Stevenson’s outburst resonates as a rebellion against the scripted narratives that often dominate the boxing landscape.

The ducking allegations surrounding the Haney fight

Shakur Stevenson turned down an offer to fight Devin Haney, creating uncertainty about the much-anticipated bout between the two American boxers. Despite Stevenson’s recent move to the lightweight division and a victory in April, negotiations hit a snag when he rejected a deal offering him only 25% of the total purse.

Devin Haney insisted the offer was genuine and not a tactic to duck a challenging fight, emphasizing that Stevenson missed an opportunity for a shot at the undisputed championship at 135. Stevenson opted to face Edwin De Los Santos for the vacant WBC lightweight title, dismissing Haney’s offer as insufficient compared to his previous earnings.

In a candid interview, Stevenson confirmed the 25% offer but denied reports of an $8 million proposal. The decision to not take up the Haney fight led to debates, with some seeing it as a missed chance for Stevenson’s career. The fighters’ rivalry deepened as Stevenson claimed superiority, but Haney moved up to 140 pounds to face Regis Prograis, reducing the likelihood of a prime matchup.

Despite fans’ disappointment, the possibility of a Stevenson-Haney bout in their prime depends on the fighters’ determination. If both are willing, the fight may happen in the future.
