Jack Catterall will finally get the rematch he has been chasing. He’s sought his rematch against Josh Taylor for almost two years. Now, the Lancashire-based fighter has confirmed that his opponent has okayed the proposition.

In February 2022, Catterall, who was then fighting for Josh Taylor’s undisputed super lightweight championship, lost claims to all four bastion belts. Josh Taylor defeated him in a split decision at the SSE Hydro, Glasgow. The close call of a victory led many, including the 30-year-old, to voice that he was robbed. Thus, he sought a rematch. Due to multiple obligations for both fighters, the rematch never materialized. However, now, as per Catterall’s revelation, it is back on the cards, despite the supposed reluctance that Taylor has shown leading up to it.

Kugan Cassius of iFL TV quizzed the southpaw on why the fight had not taken its course before. In response, Catterall retorted, “The fights not happened through no fault of me own. We had the fight. We both gone and done our thing since. He’s boxed Lopez, he’s been beat, which is unfortunate for him and I picked up two wins last year and I think we’re both in the position now where the fight makes sense for both of us.”

Ever since their Glasgow clash, ‘El Gato’ has registered two victories against Darragh Foley and Jorge Linares. Taylor, on the other hand, after giving Catterall his career’s first loss, went on to be dealt his own after Teofimo Lopez defeated him via UD.

However, Catterall insists that his upcoming opponent is accepting the fight proposal despite not being keen on it. Why does the reluctance linger? He believes that if he defeats Taylor, it’ll be the end of his southpaw counterpart.

“I know it’s a fight that he probably didn’t want, but he’s accepted now, as probably as reluctant as he was to fight me because I believe when I beat him, he’s finished. But he’s accepted it so we’re now in that period now where just waiting for like a date and a venue so we can get it on.”

His unwavering need to get his win against Taylor has made him give up on a very crucial fight of his career – the Richardson Hitchins fight.

A couple of days ago, it was confirmed that Jack Catterall’s fight against the undefeated American fighter, Richardson Hitchens, has fallen through. The IBF title eliminator was canceled without any firm reason cited.

To iFL TV, Catterall noted, “I was told from my promoters, from my manager that he was going to make the Taylor fight. I was in a position a couple of weeks ago when offer was made for the fight and I accepted which ultimately meant that Hitchens fight was not on the table. For me, this is a much bigger fight, a personal fight, a fight I believe he’s accepted as well. So, going down the route of the IBF although I was grateful for that opportunity, right now, this is much bigger for me.”
