Conor Benn has once again found himself in the discussion of the best welterweight boxers around. He launched his comeback campaign last year with a dominant 10-round points victory over the tough Mexican fighter Rodolfo Orozco in Florida. This impressive win served as a powerful reminder of Benn’s skills and determination. Not content with just one victory, The Destroyer knew it wasn’t enough to move forward and claim his place in the division.
Benn then headed to Las Vegas for a second fight in February this year, this time facing off against Peter Dobson. Once again, Benn proved unstoppable, securing a unanimous decision win. This double dose of success has propelled him back into the prestigious WBA rankings, and now he’s found himself on a list alongside great welterweights like Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr.

Benn twice tested positive for the banned PED clomifene in two separate VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) drug tests in 2022. Then, a ruling made by the NADP in the 26-year-old’s UKAD case saw his suspension lifted in July 2023, clearing the way for him to fight again. It has been reported that the decision to lift Benn’s suspension was ‘focused heavily’ on jurisdictional technicalities.

It specifically covered UKAD’s inability to rule on VADA tests – and did not include any actual examination of science explaining why clomifene was found in Benn’s system. For this reason, the UKAD still hasn’t allowed him to fight in the UK, but he can still participate on American soil. And so he did. He won two fights straight and proved his might. These wins have placed him back as a contender in the Top 10 WBA Rankings.
Not only that, he even secured a whopping number 3 spot, which is a place down from champions Terence Crawford, Eimantas Stanionis, and No. 1 and No. 2 – Shakhram Giyasov, and Errol Spence Jr, firmly placed at the top. Well, this presents a promising future for the British boxer and gives high hopes for better opponents moving forward and even a possible title fight. Eddie Hearn has already started planning for Benn’s next fight and has even given a hint regarding his next opponent.
