The Professional Boxing Association (PBA) has taken the step of suspending the licenses of promoters of Misfits Boxing, a promotion co-founded by YouTube personality KSI. Since its inception in 2022, Misfits, in collaboration with Wasserman Boxing, has organized multiple boxing events, with KSI headlining several. Notably, KSI faced Tommy Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, in their October event. The suspension has come at an odd time.

Misfits Boxing has an event scheduled on Saturday, January 20. This features prominent names on the card such as AJ Bunker and Elle Brooke, set to engage in a highly-anticipated bout. What is the reason behind such a step?

On Friday (12 January), the Professional Boxing Association (PBA) announced the suspension of Misfits Boxing’s promoters’ licenses, citing “clear violations of the PBA’s rules and regulations,” concerning boxer safety, and accusations of bringing boxing into disrepute. The PBA stated that disciplinary hearings would ensue for the individuals holding these licenses.

The official statement from the PBA expressed, “Misfits Boxing: Due to clear violations of the PBA’s rules and regulations, bringing boxing into disrepute and in the interest of boxer safety, Misfits Boxing Promoters’ licenses have been suspended, and disciplinary hearings will follow for such license holders”. As of now, there has been no official response from Misfits Boxing. Notably, five months earlier, the PBA nullified KSI’s knockout victory over Joe Fournier due to the YouTuber’s use of an unlawful elbow strike.

The scheduled fight before the licenses were suspended

Love Island alum AJ Bunker was scheduled for a rematch against Elle Brooke. This would have reignited their feud from their initial bout in July where Elle emerged victorious. The upcoming fight, part of Misfits Boxing, which has propelled several influencer boxers into the limelight, promised a renewed clash of animosity. Elle Brooke had announced the rematch on her Instagram, pondering the choice between “repeat or revenge”.

The first fight had unfolded when Bunker stepped in last minute for Astrid Wett who withdrew due to safety concerns. However, with this new announcement, the fate of the fight is uncertain.
