In a remarkable night at Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena, Anthony Joshua showcased his prowess by defeating Otto Wallin. The Briton displayed impeccable boxing skills, compelling Wallin’s corner to withdraw him after the fifth round. On the contrary, Deontay Wilder faced a surprising defeat against Joseph Parker. Joshua, while acknowledging Wilder’s loss, maintained his composure, stating, “I could rip him apart right now, but I’m taking the higher ground.”

Parker’s victory, with judges scoring 118-111, 118-110, and 120-108, derailed the anticipated Joshua-Wilder showdown. The Saudis had envisioned this mega-fight for this year, however, Wilder’s loss has thrown a bucket of cold water over these plans. However, all hope is not lost for Wilder as he still has a chance to share the ring with Joshua.

Anthony Joshua, a renowned ex-world heavyweight champion, is set to face off against former UFC star, Francis Ngannou, in a highly anticipated match in Saudi Arabia. Initially, a bout with Filip Hrgovic seemed probable for Joshua on March 9, the original date for the Wilder bout. But now, a clash with Ngannou is on the horizon.

Interestingly, Ngannou recently showcased his prowess by challenging WBC champion Tyson Fury, giving him a tough fight that went the distance. This upcoming 10-round boxing spectacle between Joshua and Ngannou is set to unfold in Riyadh, with specifics to be revealed shortly. Interestingly, boxing reporter Micheal Benson came out with a special announcement.

Taking to Twitter, he revealed that Wilder could face Zhilei Zhang or appear separately on the undercard of the event. He added, “It’s claimed Wilder and Zhang could fight each other or appear in separate fights.” It appears that the fight is yet to get confirmed as of now. Though if it can be made, it will be a crucial match-up for Wilder if he is to make a return. A loss might just be fatal for his career. But Derek Chisora believes that Wilder may be done with the fight business as of now.

Derek Chisora doesn’t believe in Wilder’s return

Derek Chisora, having fought Parker before, applauded Parker’s strategy, stating, “He boxed amazing, avoided those big right hands.” Parker’s victory has boosted his reputation, with many top heavyweights now eyeing a match with him. On the flip side, Wilder, after this lackluster performance, seems to be at a crossroads. Chisora, despite Wilder’s claims of continuing with his career, remains skeptical.

Chisora mused, “I don’t think Deontay Wilder wants to fight anymore. I think that was the last time we see Deontay Wilder.” Given Wilder’s age and financial security, some speculate he might be losing his competitive edge. Chisora’s sentiments suggest that, in his eyes, Wilder might have unofficially hung up his gloves. Only time will tell if Wilder can muster the drive to return to the ring.
