In a shocking turn of events, Canelo Alvarez is preparing to defend his super middleweight titles soon against an opponent no one previously saw coming. After hopes of a rematch against Dimitry Bivol were shattered, it appeared that the undisputed champion would meet Jermall Charlo. However, as it turns out, it will be the other Charlo who gets to face Canelo. So a question remains: Which Charlo brother is better? Thankfully, the Mexican champion, it seems, has an answer for that.

Fans initially doubted Charlo’s chances against the champ, as he would be jumping two divisions for the title bout. But his intense training soon won them over. Alvarez doesn’t plan on losing the belt to Jermell Charlo just like that. So he kicked off a fierce 10-week preparation period for the bout.

Recently, Alvarez, in an interview with a group of reporters, acknowledged that even though ‘Hit Man’ is indeed closer to his weight class, Jermell Charlo is a better opponent for him. Besides boasting a better resume, the undisputed champion at 154 lbs. remains a cut above his brother. So recently, during the press conference at the Beverly Hilton on Wednesday, the duo came face-to-face.

When asked to clarify his statement about Jermell Charlo being better than the 160-lb champion, he said, “I think both of (the twins) are great fighters, no disrespect, but I think Jermell has better positioning [and] better movement in the fights, and I think he’s the better fighter. That’s what I think.” Alvarez appears to hold the 154-pound undisputed champion in high regard, looking forward to the challenge he will bring in the upcoming matchup.

Jermell Charlo is a true challenge for Canelo

Many were disappointed when the news came out that Alvarez would face the “little brother,” as Jermell Charlo self-proclaims vis-à-vis his identical twin. They wanted to see the Mexican icon go against the big brother. Quite a few thought Jermell Charlo would take a huge risk by moving up the divisions. However, as both stood face-to-face, it became clear that it was Alvarez taking the risk of putting his title on the line.

Charlo stands roughly 3 inches taller than Alvarez when facing each other. Moreover, it was clear that the former also had longer arms, giving him a clear reach advantage. The ‘Iron Man’ said, “I’m not just a little Charlo; I’m a big Charlo.” The light middleweight champion appears ready to snatch the throne from Alvarez as the fight draws closer.
