Canelo Alvarez‘s manager has denied any offers made to them by the PBC for the David Benavidez fight. Boxing’s biggest star, Canelo Alvarez, allegedly received a tempting offer of a $55 million purse to trade punches with David Benavidez. This potential clash has been brewing since Canelo’s dominant win over Jermell Charlo. However, Benavidez will have to wait some more as Canelo is not looking to give Benavidez a shot at the title anytime soon.

This delay has fueled frustration in Benavidez’s camp, leading them to explore a light-heavyweight fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk in June. However, Alvarez’s trainer/manager Eddy Reynoso has denied any such offer made regarding this fight.

With the upcoming May 4th fight featuring Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed super-middleweight champion, the opponent remains a mystery. Fans clamor for a showdown with David Benavidez, the WBC ‘interim’ title holder and a rising star in his own right. Benavidez’s mandatory status is confirmed for March, but a fight won’t be officially ordered until after Canelo’s May bout.

The boxing world waits with bated breath for his decision, knowing this fight could be one for the ages. Hardly a day ago, Benavidez’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz talked about how the PBC had sent an offer of $55 million to Alvarez’s team. For this reason, many fans thought he would go up against Alvarez next, but Eddy Reynoso refuted this claim from Benavidez’s promoter.

According to a tweet from Michael Benson, “Canelo Alvarez’s trainer/manager Eddy Reynoso has now denied that they have been offered a guaranteed purse of $55million by Al Haymon’s PBC to fight David Benavidez next.” Even the tweet that mentioned this alleged offer has now been deleted by Lewkowicz.

Thus, it remains to be seen if there will be any negotiations moving forward. As of now, Canelo Alvarez is contemplating his options for his Cinco de Mayo event on May 4.

Canelo Alvarez faces a crossroads for his May 4th fight. The guaranteed $35 million purse from the PBC tempts him towards Jaime Munguia, their preferred opponent for the Cinco de Mayo date. However, Canelo seems hesitant, potentially favoring a clash with Jermall Charlo.

PBC’s strategy is clear: a Mexican fighter for a Mexican holiday, capitalizing on Munguia’s potential to draw bigger PPV numbers than Charlo, whose star has dimmed due to inactivity. But Canelo might prioritize a fight with more personal appeal or global reach. Well, the talks about his next fight are making the headlines constantly.
