Canelo Alvarez will most likely return by September for the year’s second fight. Details about his potential opponent may still not be available. However, one thing remains highly probable: David Benavidez‘s name may not be on the contention list.

At his end, ‘The Mexican Monster’ has already moved up a division. More so, to fight ‘The Mexican Monster’ Canelo Alvarez had specified earlier and reiterated during the post-fight interview certain terms. So if fulfilled, will the highly sought-after fight finally come to fruition? When checked, Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s uncle Jeff Mayweather seemed quite apprehensive. He was sharing his take on Canelo Alvarez’s win over Jaime Munguia with a reporter from FightHype.

The reporter asked Jeff Mayweather, “I have to get your essentially second thoughts on the Canelo and Munguia’s performance today.” Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s uncle replied that it was a fantastic match. After a long time, fans finally witnessed Canelo Alvarez’s good old days. But there still remained a problem. “He still got hit a little too much,” said Jeff Mayweather.

However, Floyd Mayweather Sr.’s younger brother seemed annoyed about one thing. He said, “Canelo’s basically put himself in that position where, and he already made it clear that, I can fight whoever I want to.” So if read between the lines, it could also mean that Alvarez probably will never step in the ring to fight David Benavidez. After all, he is seeking $200 million to fight Benavidez. “Well, I mean, so that fight probably is not going to happen,” Jeff Mayweather said.

At the T Mobile Arena yesterday, Canelo Alvarez came like a king. It looked like he allowed Jaime Munguia the initial few rounds. However, the fight soon took on a different color and hue. The undisputed super middleweight started forcing his will on the challenger.

By the time it reached the championship rounds, it was clear how the bout would conclude. Alvarez couldn’t force an early stoppage on the tough fellow Mexican. But it was apparent that in all spheres of boxing, he outclassed the Tijuana-born Munguia to retain his undisputed title.

While speaking with a bunch of reporters a few weeks ago, Canelo Alvarez, unhappy with insinuations of avoiding a fight with David Benavidez, replied that the Phoenix-born boxer basically offers no benefits. “…he brings just 25 pounds more in the night the the fight… but if he if if some promoter, not him, because he’s nothing to offer me… but I one promoter who I work to they come and say I offer to I offer to you 150 to 200 million. I fight tomorrow…that’s the only that’s the only reason I fight with him…” said the undisputed super middleweight champion.

Even yesterday, during the in-ring post-fight interview, Jimmy Lennon Jr. asked him about a fight with David Benavidez. Canelo Alvarez replied, “I don’t know right now. I want to rest, enjoy my family. But, you know, if the money is right, I make that call… I can fight right now. I don’t give sh*t.”

Some of the fans might find themselves agreeing with Jeff Mayweather. Given the monstrous amount Alvarez quoted, the chances of a fight with Benavidez remain slim. But, as it’s often said- ‘This is boxing. Anything can happen at any time’. So fans should not lose their hopes altogether either.
