After dropping his brother, Jermell Charlo, in September last year, Canelo Álvarez might now be ready to fix a fight with the older twin. While Jaime Munguia and Jermall Charlo were the two names that came up when talks about the potential opponents were happening, the latter is the one who seems to have won the place. Terence Crawford, the welterweight champion, has also officially entered the fray.

What is even better news for fans is that the Jalisco fighter will be facing the pound-for-pound great sometime this year after his match with Charlo wraps up. Michael Benson confirmed the news in an X post. Benson wrote, “Canelo Alvarez reportedly looks likely to fight Jermall Charlo and then Terence Crawford in 2024.” ESPN first broke the news, which was then shared by Benson.

This news is exactly what fans have been waiting for. Alvarez was to face the older Charlo brother last year but instead, Jermell Charlo took up the fight and climbed two weight divisions to take his twin’s place and suffered a devastating loss in the process. Fans will now get to witness what was left undone.

Crawford and Canelo have both had fighters in line, waiting for a match with the boxing stars. A fight between the two has been hyped up for long now. Earlier, Canelo turned a deaf ear to Crawford’s callout, saying the weight differences would make the fight an impossible prospect. However, ever since the potential of a fight between them was introduced, boxing greats and fans alike have been excited to see the two incredible fighters go against each other. Now it seems the dreams of many boxing fans are set to become reality.

Meanwhile, a former world champion among others had earlier given their opinions on how a fight between the two titans would go and who would emerge victorious.

Crawford’s openness to moving up in weight for a potential fight with Alvarez had earlier raised eyebrows, but former champion Tim Bradley was unwavering in his support. While acknowledging the tough task at hand, Bradley firmly backed Crawford. He even expressed confidence that Crawford could defeat Alvarez at 168 pounds. Bradley’s belief in Crawford’s abilities stemmed from the latter’s exceptional skill set, combined with speed, power, timing, and the ability to switch stances seamlessly.

Bradley acknowledged the legitimacy of concerns given Alvarez’s Hall of Fame status and victories over larger opponents. “Good speed, power, timing, can switch the way he switches. That has the toughest, the meanness that he has, the way he finishes guys, the way he breaks down guys. He’s one of the smartest guys that I’ve ever seen in the ring, right up there with Floyd Mayweather,” Bradley said about Crawford.
