Canelo Alvarez’s outstanding performance seized the trilogy with a decision win over his old rival Gennady Golovkin this weekend en route to defend his undisputed super-middleweight title. Following this win after a fresh loss to Dmitry Bivol, the Mexican superstar attended the post-fight press conference. During this, media personnel struck a conversation about two-time super-middleweight champ David Benavidez.

The latter is eager to take a shot on Alvarez. He has been calling out Canelo for months but could not get positive results. Since his roots are from Mexico and Canelo has already clarified that he is not willing to lock horns with his countryman, so this fight appears a non-starter even in the future.

Michael Benson of talk sports reported it on Twitter. He shared Canelo’s response to the Benavidez fight.

“I don’t know. Anything can happen. Guys, always I say this when I say I don’t wanna fight Mexican because I represent Mexico and that’s why I don’t care, I fight anybody. I fight my entire life, anybody. What do you think I don’t wanna fight with Mexico-born Benavidez? I hear his dad talking a lot of s**t, but look what he’s accomplished, nothing, “ Canelo said.

However, this is Canelo’s recent stand. Earlier in his career, he faced several Mexican fighters. In 2017, he defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., son of a legendary Mexican fighter.

How did fans react to Canelo Alvarez’s remark?

Another fan gave a very bold and reasonable response to Canelo. He wrote, “Imagine bud vs Spence doesn’t happen because neither fighter wants to fight another black American.”

Another fan put forth GGG’s name to contradict Canelo’s opinion. He wrote, “GGG has the same accomplishments as Benavidez at 168; both have no belts. So yeah, not buying the accomplished nothing excuse.”
