‘Canelo is Overreacting’: Boxing Champion’s Violent Threat to Lionel Messi Send Fans Into Frenzy

Soccer fans saw football fever reemerging with a vengeance as the FIFA World Cup 2022 sent waves across the globe. Moreover, there is no denying that this soccer fever has gotten athletes from other sports to also extend their support to their favorite teams. The sport of boxing was no different. In fact, pound-for-pound king, Canelo Alvarez, had a few choice words for Lionel Messi after Mexico’s loss to Argentina.

Mexico and Argentina clashed at the Lusail Stadium on November 26, 2o22. Another notable fact was that this match was to decide Argentina’s future in the competition after their prior loss to Saudi Arabia.

However, Messi saved the day by scoring the first goal. And then Enzo Fernandez quickly followed suit with a second goal, thereby sealing Argentina’s victory.

A video released later from their locker room also showed the Argentinian team celebrating their victory.

Alvarez, on the other hand, was unhappy with the loss of his home team. And was also very vocal about it on social media.

But another aspect of the celebration quickly caught Alvarez’s eye. He alleged that he saw Messi cleaning the floor with the Mexican jersey and flag.

Moreover, an enraged Alvarez asked Messi to pray for his safety and to save himself from his wrath.

Fans did not hesitate in calling out Canelo Alvarez

A lot of fans were not too happy with Canelo Alvarez’s statement about Lionel Messi. Moreover, a lot of fans took to social media to share their thoughts about the same.

User @zevahcleugim felt that Alvarez was overreacting.

On the other hand, a few fans were quick to question why the jersey was on the floor in the first place.

In a surprising turn of events, a few fans felt that Messi would win if he fought Alvarez.

However, user @TLActivist mentioned that Alvarez would threaten anyone except the fighters in the 168 division. And also stressed on a potential fight with David Benavidez.
