It’s war. Alycia Baumgardner and Caroline Dubois, the sister of former heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois and now the WBC lightweight titleholder, are going at each other’s throats. Thankfully, the battle is restricted to X. Still, it has turned into a no-holds-barred squabble, with personal scandals dragged in to raise the pitch and perhaps build hype. It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly triggered the fracas. But it’s well known that the American boxing star and the young go-getter have been at odds for some time. While Dubois has called her out, Baumgardner has largely stayed focused on her title defenses.

Alycia Baumgardner is coming off a super featherweight undisputed title defense. She is now slated to face Canadian fighter Leila Beaudoin on the Jake Paul-Gervonta Davis exhibition card next month. Caroline Dubois, on the other hand, became the interim WBC champion last year. She was elevated to full champion when Katie Taylor vacated the title. After a draw against Jessica Camara, she defeated Bo Mi Re Shin in her second title defense earlier this March.

Gloves On: Caroline Dubois vs. Alycia Baumgardner
Pointing at Baumgartner’s d*ping controversy, Caroline called her a ‘dr*g cheat.’ She wrote, “Listen here, you dr*g-cheating a**, I’m chasing big fights and big moments.” Laying out her plan to conquer the lightweight division, she claimed that, unlike her, the American champion has had an easy route to remain undisputed.
Listen here, you drug cheating ass, I’m chasing big fights and big moments. I’m going to deal with my division, don’t you worry about that.the stars aligned for you to make a clean run at undisputed, and Im praying i can get the same opportunity. Sooner rather than later https://t.co/A4YMJjyHtZ

Caroline Dubois’ rant followed a sharp rebuke from Alycia Baumgardner. Calling out the Brit to stay out of her lane, the Detroit-born fighter suggested Dubois should first follow the examples of Katie Taylor or Amanda Serrano and then face fighters like Beatriz Ferreira or Terri Harper to establish herself.
Taking a potshot at Dubois, Baumgardner implied that she might be yearning for a fight on the MVP card. She fired, “Talk is cheap, but belts ain’t. I cleaned out 130 and became undisputed…that’s called GREATNESS. You keep mentioning my name for clout, but I’ve proved myself time and time again while you’re still begging to be seen. 💣🥱”
Earlier, returning to her own post, Dubois doubled down, saying she aspires to big fights.
Crown in sight, thorns in the way
If she wants, Alycia Baumgardner could step in and fight her. But it seems she is hiding behind the excuse that Dubois lacks belts. “The fight will happen, and when it does, people will realize I was never lying,” Daniel Dubois’ sister said.
Back in April, Caroline spoke about the potential matchup with Alycia. “That’s a fight that interests me a lot,” she said. When the reporter pointed to Baumgardner’s plans to move up a division, Dubois insisted, “You have to see me. You have to see me,” before asserting that she would take her out in a fight.
Her confidence stands in sharp contrast to her statement last year. At the time, while she expressed an interest in fighting Baumgardner, Dubois admitted it wasn’t the right moment for her to face off against one of women’s boxing’s biggest names.
For the record, Dubois seems to have called out Terri Harper, the WBO lightweight champion. However, the three-weight titleholder revealed she had received a fight contract from Dubois’ team. But it seemingly lacked a date or venue.
So fans will have to watch this space as it gets spicier.

Perhaps the only way Caroline Dubois can demand a fight with Alycia Baumgardner at this stage is by going for title unification. She’ll need to collect more belts. Once she firmly establishes herself in the division, she can circle back for a momentous clash with the American.
What’s your take? Do you think Caroline Dubois is ready to fight Alycia Baumgardner?
