Chris Arreola ranks among the most prominent heavyweight boxing faces of this generation. In his extensive career, Arreola has confronted several hotshots of the sport. But a contest that accrued everyone’s attention was when he locked horns against the ex-WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder.
The hard-hitting heavyweights took up the ring space against each other in 2016. This fight was for the WBC heavyweight title, as ‘The Nightmare’ earned his title shot after vanquishing many opponents from his way.
Many expected the then 35-year-old to hand the Alabama native his first pro-boxing loss. However, the latter’s power was too much to handle for Chris Arreola.

The fight began on a light note for both the pugilists, as they wanted to keep their composure until the very end. Wilder threw jabs in the initial rounds and Arreola entered an abrupt defense mode. Despite putting his defensive skills to the test, Arreola tried going toe to toe against the intimidating knockout artist.
As the fight progressed, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ increased the pace and began showcasing his genuine power. His height and reach were more than that of ‘The Nightmare’ and he used it to its full extent.
In the later rounds, Wilder’s power was too much to handle for the California native. This fight turned into a one-sided affair and as a result, the referee ended proceedings after round 8. Arreola already took a lot of damage and he couldn’t really showcase his true prowess in this clash.
