Claressa Shields has decided to counter MVP (Most Valuable Promotions) and Alycia Baumgardner‘s jabs with one of her own. She now plans legal action against Jake Paul’s promotion and the super featherweight champion for damaging her reputation.

“Now, I’m not going to get into too much of the situation that happened since folks from the brush orders, whatever the case may be, but I will say this,” Shields said on social media.

“Both of MVP and Baumgardner statements were lies. That is defamation of character. For those who saw the video of Baumgardner threatening me, telling me, “I’ll beat your a** right now—that is a threat.”

So now that I’m looking at statements and I’m seeing people lie,” she added. “It’s okay because I’m not going to handle it with the law. I’m going to handle it with the court. Y’all going to get sued for defamation of character. All of y’all up over there. So y’all need to get y’all checkbooks ready.”

Claressa Shields‘ latest social media outburst stems from the incident that unfolded at the inaugural MVP MMA1 event at Intuit Dome last weekend.

Footage of the altercation, where Shields allegedly slapped Baumgardner, quickly gained traction online and intensified the fallout surrounding the incident.

Following the altercation, MVP released a public statement revealing that Shields is banned from attending all future MVP events. In a separate statement, Baumgardner said she was also considering legal action.

“That conduct is unacceptable and should not be tolerated in any professional sport,” she wrote. “This behavior reflects a repeated pattern of hostility, chaos, and attention-seeking conduct that continues to embarrass women’s sports. This situation has been and will continue to be handled legally and professionally.”

As the controversy continued drawing attention, Shields responded with her own version of events before later accusing Jake Paul‘s promotion of character assassination in another social media post.

Claressa Shields ramps up response as MVP and Alycia Baumgardner stand firm after clash

“Now To MVP, y’all tried to sign me; I declined!” She wrote three days ago. “You cannot ban me from a place I didn’t want to be! I can go fight anywhere in the world Tomorrow! So anyone who think this weak-a** ban matters, it don’t 😂! Those false statements will be addressed too. Y’all fighters threatening me and then playing victim is insane. MVP, y’all lying on me is NOTHING NEW! Since you guys came out the gate, nothing but disrespect! Calling y’all fighters “the Real GWOAT,” overlooking my accomplishments, trying to erase my hard work in women’s boxing 🥊 & constantly trying to assassinate my character with LIES! “

The controversy has divided opinions across the boxing community. While some backed Baumgardner and MVP’s actions, others questioned their stance and handling of the situation.

Few expected the rivalry between the two world champions to escalate to this level, which explains the widespread attention the incident has generated.

The two have long been at odds, with Shields and Baumgardner repeatedly trading shots at each other, even through proxies. Shields once claimed lightweight champion Caroline Dubois had the tools to beat Baumgardner. The latter, meanwhile, backed her fellow MVP stablemate Mikaela Mayer in a potential showdown against Shields.

That history also leaves many wondering why the two titleholders continue taking personal shots at each other when the chances of an actual fight between them appear highly unlikely.

The sheer weight difference between Shields, who now rules the heavyweight division, and Baumgardner, a 130-pound champion, makes the idea of a fight appear unrealistic even if both sides agree to a catchweight.

Perhaps it’s time for cooler heads to prevail between the two camps. It’s a rivalry that appears to have no realistic destination. Mutual acquaintances could therefore reach out to both sides and mediate before the situation escalates further and potentially damages their boxing legacies.
