Former boxer and Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Oscar De La Hoya, seems to have set his sight on selling his company which he founded in 2002. The company is named after De La Hoya’s nickname ‘Gloden Boy’, which he earned after winning the gold medal in the 1992 Olympics and carried throughout his career.

The company promotes some of boxing’s biggest talents like Ryan Garcia, Vergil Ortiz, and Jaime Munguia. Moreover, boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez was also formerly signed with the promotion but left after founding his own company.

‘Golden Boy’ plans to sell his promotion

De La Hoya has recently come out and shared his plans to possibly sell the company. In an interview with ESPN, he had this to say:

I’m sitting on a billion-dollar company, and I can’t wait to get rid of it. And most importantly, I can’t wait to be the very first fighter ever to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a promoter as well. These are goals that I have.”

His ambition certainly is to become the first person ever to be inducted into the hall of fame as a boxer and a promoter. Although, he has already been inducted as a boxer in 2014 and will now look to be inducted as a promoter as well. But, before leaving, he seems keen on making big fights, saying that they are crucial for the sport.

“We’re sitting on a gold mine. When I’m ready to get out, the time will come. But in the meantime, that’s the reason I want to make these big fights happen. It’s crucial. It’s crucial for the sport. It’s crucial for my company. It’s crucial, most importantly, for the fan base.”

Dana White and Oscar De La Hoya

The beef apparently started after De La Hoya criticized the blockbuster Mayweather-McGregor event co-promoted by White in 2017. Since then, the conflict has only escalated, with White constantly calling De La Hoya a drug-addict. Furthermore, De La Hoya has also taken jabs at the UFC, specifically regarding the fighter pay.

White has also called De La Hoya ‘Hypocrite’ after the fight purses of the Ortiz and Liddell event hosted by Golden Boy Promotions were revealed. Fortunately, after years of conflict, De La Hoya might have intentions to squash the beef.
