Finally, the hunter found the bait to lure the lion out of the den. But there’s one thing about David Benavidez. Once he catches a glimpse of the target, by no manner of means would he allow it to fade from his view. Caleb Plant, for one, could vouch for ‘The Mexican Monster’s’ tenacity. Setting his eyes on the next target, Benavidez called out the biggest name in Middleweight boxing. However, for one reason or the other, the fight has been hanging on the fence. But for how long? It seems the Mexican-American boxer has found an egress.

David Benavidez publicly called out ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for a September fight. The twenty-six-year-old became a world title holder for a third time after a gap of three years. He came out with flying colors during the first defense of the WBC (Interim) Super Middleweight championship on March 25. Hence, it would be weird to expect the ambitious boxer with an unsatiable appetite for early stoppages to remain satisfied with the status quo and await a mandatory summon.

David Benavidez has the mean to redress the ‘Canelo’ pickle

On his part, ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has repeatedly reiterated his disinterest in fighting a fellow countryman. Why? Because he represents Mexico! Also, by the cues and clues, he seems interested only in one bout. He badly wants to take revenge for the loss he suffered at the hands of Dmitry Bivol in May last year. Thus why should he partake in a fight with an upcoming boxer?

David Benavidez persists. After all, he is Ecudorian-American. But, of course, that wouldn’t put the reigning champion in a predicament either. Plus, he seems to have found a formula that may be hard for Alvarez to ignore. Sports Illustrated‘s senior writer Chris Mannix shared yesterday evening that team Benavidez laid bare a proposition worth $50 million to ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for a September match.

According to Mannix, while the actual purse would be somewhere close to $40 million, once the earning from gate and pay-per-view subscriptions are divided, it should be touching $50 million. Though doubts have been raised over Alvarez after the recent John Ryder fight, it cannot be denied that both boxers wield significant influence in the division. Moreover, both are still in their prime and remain undefeated. Hence a match between the two stands a good chance of becoming a chartbuster.
