Deontay Wilder Reveals Ugly Truth Behind Long Count in First Tyson Fury Fight

Deontay Wilder, the former WBC heavyweight champion, believed that the referee did an unfair thing by doing a long count in the first fight of a trilogy against one of the greatest heavyweight champs of this generation, Tyson Fury.

The highly anticipated fight between the-then undefeated defending WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, and undefeated challenger, Tyson Fury, took place on December 1, 2018, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Both entered the arena with their best arsenal, Wilder with powerful hands and Fury with impeccable technique. The fight began and with each round the slugfest became competitive.

The most spectacular moment came in the final when Wilder caught ‘The Gypsy King’ with a lethal combination of a straight cross followed by a left hook. It dropped Fury on the floor. However, Fury survived it. But after the fight, many questioned the referee’s role. They were of the opinion that the latter did a slow count.

Speaking to Cigar Talks, Wilder said, “Referee, I think it gave away too much time. I agree with that too he said oh he said that I won all the rounds in his opinion all that. He said the only reason he did what he did because he did what was best for the sport. And I like that’s not fair to me right.”

However, Wilder believed that though it was unfair, it brought greatness to the trilogy otherwise it would have ended there only.

When will Deontay Wilder return to the ring again?

‘The Broze Bomber’ was not sure if he would return a year back. But now he has made up his mind to offer what is left of him. This Saturday, he is set to face Robert Helenius, at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York.

With this contest, he will again begin his quest for the world title. Hopefully, the knockout machine will get back into rhythm to deliver his top game.
