According to several sources, if all the pieces are in place, a WBA title defense between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois might be around the corner in August. The build-up comes on the back of the much-anticipated potential bout between the Ukrainian and Tyson Fury. But the talks eventually failed. However, that hasn’t prevented other boxers from calling out Usyk for a fight. Among them stands former champion Deontay Wilder. But the American believes that ‘The Cat’ is scared of him.

Speaking to Elie Seckbach a week ago, when asked when there’s any possibility of him fighting Oleksandr Usyk, Wilder replied, “Yeah, you know, I’am all for, but I don’t, you know he’s a little afraid. Not a little afraid, but a lot afraid.

When Seckbach persisted about why he said that, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ mentioned that he knows many things in the business. ESPN Ringside shared the update with followers; nearly half a million have viewed the post. In addition, many fans shared their standpoints.

Fans want Deontay Wilder to do a reality check

Putting the blame squarely on Wilder, the following user said that the former champion must be living in a fantasy world. Throughout his career, he only fought boxers poor in skills. The only credible weapon in his arsenal remained the right hand he wielded most unusually. However, his luck ran out when he came across Tyson Fury. Ever since has been giving one excuse or the other.

User John seems clear that it would be a cakewalk for the Ukrainian. He will knock out Wilder in the first round.

User Mark joined John and said that unlike Fury, who took time to defeat Wilder, Usyk would not drag the match to the distance. Had the Ukrainian not been a Southpaw, the bout would have been a halfway affair. But, unfortunately for the American boxer, Usyk is a Southpaw. A few fighters, such as Luis Ortiz, came out better against Wilder. So with his speed, stamina, and combinations, ‘The Cat’ will toy with him.

According to the following user, there’s no reason Wilder should worry. If Daniel Dubois decides against fighting Oleksandr Usyk, Wilder will have the option to fight the Ukrainian. Now, if the ‘Bronze Bomber’ also chooses to avoid a match with Usyk, it becomes clear that he evaded the clash. Else whatever Deontay Wilder is saying remains nonsense.

According to the user Edward, Usyk is not scared of Wilder. If they fight, the Ukrainian will either knock out the American boxer in the fifth round or take the match to the decisions winning unanimously.

Finally, Wilder received support from users such as Victor, who opined that Oleksandr Usyk should consider fighting Deontay Wilder if Fury’s fight doesn’t turn. ‘The Bronze Bomber’ can take on Usyk and may even knock him out.

After two consecutive defeats at the hands of Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder had a comeback of sorts with a first-round knock-out victory over Robert Helenius on October 15. However, it’s been over six months, and he is yet to stage a return to the ring. In the past, there were even reports of him sending feelers to now-free, former UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
