Following his defeat against Canelo Alvarez in the latter’s hometown, John Ryder declared what he felt about Canelo’s performance in the ring. While Eddie Hearn branded the event as “a movie” and observed a “solid win for Saul,” Ryder feels Alvarez is on the decline. According to Ryder, the WBO interim super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez fought well but is also “probably past his best“.

John Ryder admits Canelo Alvarez had enough in his tank but he’s past his best
In his opinion, despite investing “so much” in this sport, Ryder feels he has not got “the rub of the green”. Although he faced Alvarez with a dream, he feels he fell short. Hence, on being asked about how he felt after the bout, Ryder said, “Just gutted. I’ve put so much into the sport over the last few years. And not always got the rub of the green. Come here with a dream like I said. And fell short. But that’s boxing. Not the first and won’t be the last.”

Ahead of the fight with Ryder, in an interview with Chris Mannix, Alvarez was against the view that he is on the decline. In fact, the Mexican fighter reiterated that he was at his best. However, Ryder felt otherwise. “He was very good. I still think he’s probably past his best. But he still had enough in his tank tonight,” Ryder added saying. While Alvarez won the fight, one must also acknowledge that Ryder exposed the Mexican boxer and had his moments of success. Likewise, Ryder said, “His plan was to stop me, he didn’t. I know I took a great shot in the fifth round. Come back swinging and probably had some good rounds after that.”
