Canelo Alvarez successfully defended his undisputed crown against Jermell Charlo on September 30 by unanimous decision. After the fight, Alvarez claimed to be the best boxer as of now. He even stated that nobody could beat this version of himself. Instantly, the pundits had two contenders ready who they believed could pose a problem for the pound-for-pound king. One is the interim WBC super middleweight champion, David Benavidez, and the other is the undisputed welterweight champion, Terence Crawford.

Both fights are highly anticipated, and both fighters have shown interest in challenging ‘Cinnamon’ for his four titles in the super middleweight division. Alvarez has proven by beating Jermell Charlo that he still hasn’t lost a step in the sweet science. But the fans need more now that the legendary boxing commentator has voiced his opinion about both fights.

In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Jim Lampley discussed the possibility of both bouts. At first, he spoke objectively and talked about how one of these fights made more sense than the other. He said, “I think the David Benavidez fight is a logical matchup. I think a lot of people will want to see it, it makes a lot of sense.

He confessed he feels subjectively that he’d want Alvarez to take a fight against Terence Crawford. So, Lampley desires to witness another undisputed vs. undisputed clash. He said, “Terence Crawford is the most violent force in boxing and I don’t think he’s big enough to match with Canelo Alvarez but I think he’d love to have a chance to prove it.” Well, the size is a big thing for Lampley; he even blamed the size difference for Alvarez’s loss against Dmitry Bivol.

The commentator believes that Crawford vs. Alvarez would be a bigger fight than Benavidez. But currently going with Benavidez would make more sense. Behind his reasons, it’s also to be noted that Jim Lampley believes Crawford is as great as Sugar ‘Ray’ Robinson in the modern era.

Lampley also appeared on an episode of MMA Hour, where he talked about his thoughts on the style of Terence Crawford’s fighting. He stated that the world of boxing has a modern-era gem, and it’s nobody other than ‘Bud’ as of now. He said, “We have a great new pound-for-pound king, who reminds me in a lot of ways of ‘Sugar’ Ray Robinson.

Moreover, he stated that he’s got the balance and resistance of the boxing legend down to accuracy quite well. He knows how to cover his distance and peek his punch through his opponent’s defense. He said Crawford’s abilities let him “create position for a counter-punch that develops murderous power.” So, he currently favors him over any other boxer.

However, even he believes that Canelo Alvarez would be a problem for his favorite fighter. Mainly because of his size difference, since he could prove to be bigger than Crawford since he’d be moving up three weight classes to take this fight. What are your thoughts about this?
