As the dust settles, it’s clear who rules the roost in the 135 lbs. More often than not, Devin Haney made his intentions of going up a division to the Super Lightweight clear. Though many, even the voices from his camp, acknowledge a few unresolved questions in the current division. But when the situation demands proactive steps such as sending feelers, news breaks out that the opposite camp is in a quandary. However, Devin’s father, Bill Haney, is a down-to-earth pragmatist who shared their action plan.

Even though it proved a bit strenuous, Devin Haney retained his undisputed titles from Vasiliy Lomachenko last month. Though the first half of the year witnessed another big match. Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis battled it at T Mobile arena on April 22. So ideally speaking, Haney and Davis should slug it out to settle the debate on the divisional king.

The future of the mouth-watering clash ran into its first hurdle at the beginning of this month. Law enforcement took custody of Gervonta Davis as he was reportedly found responsible for breaching the house arrest regulations that came his way when the Honorable Court held him guilty for the 2020 road accident case. ‘Tank’ Davis would spend the remainder of the sentence, roughly two months, in prison.

But Bill Haney remains unruffled by the setback. The thoughtful father, who has never left his son’s side, informed AKHi TV of the next course of action he undertook to make the much-hoped-for fight a reality. The reporter asked whether he contacted Showtime or Davis’ team to take the business further. He said that he spoke to Mayweather Promotions’ CEO Leonard Ellerbe. At the same time, Devin Haney also spoke with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

He said, “Oh, absolutely, you know, I …[call] everybody. I…[call] everybody, um, you know, I talked to uh Leonard Ellerbe uh from time to time, um, you know, letting him know that uh how we feel about uh that finding what we’ll do to make it happen I know Devin talks to Floyd um you know I talk uh to Showtime uh you know since message I send messages to them from time to time um you know…

But it doesn’t mean that Davis is the only option left for Haney. Recently, Shakur Stevenson also moved to the 135 lbs. division. He possesses enough credentials for a credible challenge. But, then, in the 140 lbs., while ‘The Dream’ will have to invariably cross paths with Regis Prograis, if the stars align, he might meet his foe from the amateur days, Ryan Garcia, who too plans to fight as a Super Lightweight.
