A Split Decision. That’s how close the fight was between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury. The two fighters pushed the limits of their boxing prowess to its highest extent in a bout on the 26th of February this year. On fight night, a jam-packed Diriyah Arena of Saudi Arabia rose in anticipation with every jab the fighters took at each other. A totally hung fight and none of the fighters took respite through the night.

However, when the eight rounds had elapsed, one of them had to be given the news of their loss. Facing the brunt here was Jake Paul. The fighter was given the taste of loss for the time in his career. But his defeat and Fury’s win did not mark the night. It was in fact the amount of money it had made that was etched in headlines. Amounts so massive that even a loss for Paul was shadowed by the money he made.

In a recent conversation on the Full Send Podcast, ‘Problem Child’ Paul went into the depths of the reason why his fight against ‘TMT’ Fury earned the massive bucks that it did. Revealing that the highest he earned in the span of 8 bouts, the fighter said that he pocketed a staggering $30 million for his Tommy Fury clash.

Further discussing why that specific fight got him that insane amount of money, Paul said, “I think the timing of everything in fights like that makes the most sense. And it was like two young undefeated prospects putting it on the line. His brother’s the heavyweight champion of the world. Family vs. family. The beef.” Earlier to this fight, the Paul and Fury clans had announced to the world on two occasions that a bout between them was on the horizon. But none of them fruitioned. He added that the promotions done for those fights too contributed to hyping the February clash.

It was indeed one of the most-hyped fights of the year. In pursuit of being a part of this moment, the biggest names of the world had descended on the arena. One of them was Cristiano Ronaldo. Paul added, “Hmm, tons of legend attending the fight; Ronaldo being there, so it just turned into this massive event, and we specifically put it at a time where there was no other sports on TV. So like all of these little things, add up to making it big.”

From his loss to a relatable personality, Jake sees the silver lining

Apart from the massive payout he earned for his fight against the British fighter, Jake Paul also earned a lot more that night. Relatability in the boxing realm he says. Talking about how his loss had broken the barrier between his fans and him, the influencer-turned-boxer said, “I think the loss actually made me more relatable because for some reason people think of celebrities as not humans.” He further added, “If anything, it’s grown my fanbase and given me the opportunity to come back, and people see now how serious I am about it, doubling down now after a loss.

Now, having a loss registered in his record, the 29-year-old thinks the burden on his chest has reduced a bit. Something that he feared the most had become the reality. But that does not deter him, in fact, it subjects the fear to erasure. He says, “I was carrying the influencer boxing wave and my worst fear was losing, because I didn’t know what would happen on the other side of that.

Within six months of his career’s first loss, Jake Paul redeemed himself by going against UFC-fame, Nate Diaz. Through a unanimous decision win, the fighter had reinvigorated his boxing career. Now, a rematch with Fury is still on the cards, who will be his next opponent? Only time will tell.
