There are a plethora of clips on the internet, where Mike Tyson is addressing his alcoholism. He also talks about how he had overcome his inner demons of self-destructive behavior. In an episode of his podcast, Tyson stated that it’d been eight years since he had touched the vile ‘poison’. Back in 2013, Tyson admitted in a news conference, that he doesn’t want to die and continue as a sober man in his life further. He was quite close to his demise because of his substance abuse, as he said, “I’m on the verge of dying because I’m a vicious alcoholic.”
It’s been almost a decade since these words have come out of Tyson’s mouth, and Tyson claims to be a non-alcoholic now. Although alcohol ruined his life in the past, he didn’t have any bad things to say about it in front of his friends and even remarked that it can prove to not bring out the bad in some people.

Recently on a Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson episode with Criss Angel as the guest, Tyson’s co-host, Sebastian Joseph-Day brought up the topic of alcohol and how it has some relation with ‘evil spirits’. Well, Tyson heard his logic and immediately debunked his theory with his counterstatement.
Mike Tyson shares his thoughts on alcohol bringing out the ‘evil spirit’
In a segment of the episode, Mike Tyson made another revelation when he told his companions that he used to consume alcohol mid-training. As it provided him the same adrenaline rush as though he was actually fighting, and his body started craving that feeling. Once he also talked about his regret when he fought with his wife while being under the influence. Anyways, furthermore, he stated it’s the same with spirits as well. And maybe that’s why a lot of people call ‘alcohol’ spirits.
At that time, Sebastian intervened and brought his theory to the table. He said, “If I’m correct alcohol actually stands for al-ghoul, it’s like an actual evil spirit. So actually it brings it out of you.”

Well, Tyson heard and instantly stated, but some people actually transform into the best people in the world after drinking. So for those people, Tyson admitted that he gets them drunk whenever he’s hanging out with them.
Etymologically, according to Merriam-Webster, the word, ‘alcohol’, is derived from the Arabic term, ‘al-khul’, which is a distilled and powdered version of antimony, mainly used for eyeliners. But at the same time, there’s a competing theory circling around the internet, that the word may also have relations to the word, ‘al-ghoul’, which, therefore, means ‘demons’ or ‘spirits’. It can’t be said for sure, which one is more accurate, as it’s nothing more than a semantic discord.
