Oscar De La Hoya has introduced a temporary obstacle to Ryan Garcia‘s plans. He has seemingly intervened in the decision-making process of his prominent star. It runs contrary to Garcia’s initial inclination to shift from facing WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney to pursuing a bout against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero for the WBA belt.

However, De La Hoya’s social media post indicates a potential overruling of Ryan’s decision. The post strongly suggests that De La Hoya is inclined to thwart Garcia’s move and impede his attempt to face Rolly Romero. He’s planned another one of his fighters ready to rise to the occasion and face Romero in the next fight.

Oscar De La Hoya ignores Ryan Garcia’s appeal

Oscar De La Hoya revealed the next challenge for Rolly Romero. He stated that Ohara Davies, dubbed “Golden Boy’s newest and soon-to-be-star,” could be Romero’s next opponent. This revelation follows De La Hoya’s previous post where he suggested intervening in Ryan Garcia’s decision to face Romero. The focus now shifts to Ohara Davies, who is set to compete in the co-main event bout against Ismael Barroso.

This bout will feature on the undercard of the Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Fredrick Lawson matchup. If Davies secures victory in his contest, it would open up a lot of opportunities, and his promoter has special things planned for his future. However, this would again put the promoter De La Hoya at a crossroads with his fighter Ryan Garcia. Right after Garcia’s appeal, De La Hoya wrote that if Davies wins the bout, “he gets Rollies for the world title!

Before Romero, Ryan Garcia was hellbent on facing Devin Haney, but he seems to have changed his mind after the leaked PPV numbers from his bout against Regis Prograis.

Change of plans for Ryan Garcia

‘KingRy’ has made it clear that he doesn’t want to get involved in any kind of negotiations after he got to know the leaked PPV numbers of Devin Haney. He now believes that he’s the bigger draw among the two of them, and for that reason, he wants to wait on their contest for some time. Garcia is quite confident that the offer for Haney’s fight will stand strong even after squaring up against Romero.

Garcia also mentioned that Haney needs him since he isn’t able to make any significant PPV sales. Garcia’s track record, especially when it comes to selling the fights, has been better than ‘The Dream’. However, Devin Haney is agitated by Garcia’s post, and he forbade him from taking his name from now on.

However, Garcia wants to take on Romero and has requested his team to proceed further in that direction. But, De La Hoya is looking to pour cold water on King Ry’s plans as he offered to give away the latter’s preferred target to his “soon-to-be star”. What are your thoughts about this?
