Rising star Jesus Ramos Jr. who was earlier supposed to square off against Sergio Garcia on the undercard of Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford is reportedly off the event. At the prospect of fighting Garcia on the undercard of Spence Jr. vs. Crawford, Ramos Jr. contemplated “a huge opportunity” and declared himself to be “blessed“.

Ramos Jr. even looked forward to fighting 12 rounds, believing Garcia would arrive “ready“. Not only did the undefeated super-welterweight boxer desire “a knockout“, he simultaneously expected to be in the “top 5” of his division. “I think with a win over Sergio Garcia I’m top five, or at least top 10 in the division,” the 22-year-old declared confidently.

Although he wanted to capitalize on the “huge opportunity“, Ramos Jr. would now step back after an unfortunate injury. Reportedly, Nonito Donaire vs Alexandro Santiago would substitute the Ramos Jr. vs. Garcia bout. Donaire, who has not fought in a year, would return for a vacant Bantamweight title fight. In his last bout, he fought Naoya Inoue in a rematch and embraced a TKO loss.

While Nonito Donaire is currently 42-7-0, his upcoming opponent Alexandro Santiago is 27-3-5. Although losing Ramos Jr. vs. Garcia is upsetting, Donaire and Santiago promise to deliver a memorable night. However, while the mentioned fight is set to replace Ramos Jr. vs. Garcia, one can’t help but sympathize with Ramos Jr. who wanted to put up an “exciting fight” on July 29.

Ramos Jr. wanted to demonstrate the “more mature fighter” that he claimed himself to be now. Contemplating a knockout victory, the 22-year-old declared he would brawl with Garcia if need be. “The goal is a knockout [against Garcia], but I’m a more mature fighter now. I work hard every day and I have to demonstrate that. I can brawl if I have to,” stated Ramos Jr. as reported by Boxing Scene.

In addition, he mentioned that he has been “impressive“, “beating the top guys” in the sport. Unfortunately, as per the current situation, Ramos Jr. would now have to wait to achieve his goal. Hopefully, he will soon recover from his injury and return to the ring.
