It’s an unlikely alliance, but it might be true. The old rivals are joining hands if an Instagram story is to be believed. Devin Haney is reportedly now training under Gervonta Davis‘ co-trainer Kenny Ellis. However, the fans didn’t take lightly the development, as they heatedly debated its reality.

Haney, 25, is spending some time off the boxing ring after receiving a beating from Ryan Garcia. While he still has his unblemished record intact, he might still be low on confidence. So, it looks like the WBC champion has turned to a new trainer and might be making progress already.

Devin Haney forges an unlikely alliance

Ellis turned to his Instagram handle and gave an update, which revealed that he was training ‘The Dream’. The Baltimore native coach also pointed out that Haney, at 31-0, was making progress under him and was getting stronger. He wrote in the caption, “I’m training Devin and he’s getN stronger and stronger everyday.”

But the fans should remember that Ellis has carved out a reputation for pranking and mocking ‘Tank’s rivals and opponents, as he did with Shakur Stevenson recently. The coach had asked the fans to buy tickets for Stevenson’s fight with Joe Cordina, which was nothing but a dig at the WBC lightweight champion. So, the fans are now split over how they see this scenario.

Fans divided by the idea of ‘The Dream’ joining forces with Kenny Ellis

A fan argued it marked a conflict of interest for Ellis, as both Haney and Davis share an intense, long-standing rivalry and have been at each other’s throats. They argued, “Conflict of interest though surely.” But with both active in different divisions now, it couldn’t affect their prospect of a fight.

A user theorized Ellis could be trolling based on his past antics. They contested, “Idk if it’s true kenny be trolling a lot😂.” Interestingly, the boxer-turned-trainer also did similar pranks on Vasyl Lomachenko when the Ukrainian boxer was in talks to fight Davis.

Someone suggested that it could result in Haney and Davis never sharing a ring, as they still continue to fuel rumors of a fight between them. They claimed, “So which means Devin and Tank will never fight each other.” In contrast, Davis, at 30-0, has insisted on his intention of fighting at 135 and not climbing up to 140 on several occasions.

A comment referenced Haney’s fight with Garcia, where ‘KingRy’ caught him clean multiple times. The comment read, “Teach em how to avoid his opponent’s power hand/ best punch 😂😂😂.” In their high-octane fight, Garcia, 26, exploited Haney’s defensive holes and dropped him three times on canvas with his signature left hook.

Lastly, a fan maintained that Haney and Davis were not going to fight each other and after Haney’s last camp, he might need to make some drastic changes. They said, “If they not gonna fight any way I say let it rock cuz dev needs a new camp desperately and why not.” Ellis can fix some issues that Haney had in his last fight and make him a well-rounded boxer.
